Mr. Nicks, from the committee on roads and bridges, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act for the more effectual protection of highways and bridges," reported in favor of the passage of the same, and said bill was committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Nicks, from the committee on roads and bridges, to which was referred the bill entitled "An act to authorize the making and opening of a road or avenue in the towns of White Plains, Harrison and Rye, in the county of Westchester, to be known and called Westchester avenue," reported in favor of the passage of the same, with amendments, and said bill was committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Creamer gave notice that he would, on some future day, ask leave to introduce a bill in relation to gas companies in the city of New York. Mr. Norton gave notice that he would, on some future day, ask leave to introduce a bill to authorize the construction of a railroad through Seventy-ninth street, Lexington avenue, and certain other streets and avenues in the city of New York.

The Assembly returned the following entitled bill, with a message that they had passed the same, without amendment:

"An act to amend the charter of the Homoeopathic Mutual Life Insurance Company."
