MR. SPEAKER: I am directed to inform the House that the Senate have passed bills of the following titles:

S. 6. An act enabling the Windsor County Mutual Fire Insurance Company to insure against loss by lightning;

S. 13. An act concerning witnesses;

S. 14. An act to simplify indictments for forgery and counterfeiting;

S. 15. An act to simplify indictments for murder and manslaughter;

S. 12. An act [relating to mortgages of hotel fixtures and furniture;

S. 21. An act in amendment of section seven, chapter one hundred and thirteen, of the General Statutes, and in addition to said chapter;

In the passage of which the concurrence of the House is requested.

The Senate has considered a House bill entitled

H. 11. An act laying a tax on the county of Caledonia; And have passed the same in concurrence.

Petitions of sundry persons, praying for amendments to the prohibitory laws of the State, were presented, and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary, as follows;

Reported adversely to its passage;

Reported adversely to its passage.

The question being, Shall the bill be read the third time? on motion of Mr. Davis, it was

Mr. Calderwood, from the same committee, to whom was referred House bill. entitled

H. 75. An act relating to school district taxes; Reported in favor of its passage, when amended: First. By inserting the enacting clause in its proper place;

Second. In section two, by striking out the words "one of which shall be the usual place of posting warnings for school meetings ";

Third. By striking out the fourth section of said bill. The several amendments were agreed to, and the bill, as amended,

Ordered to be read the third time to-morrow afternoon.
