The Speaker announced the appointment of the following named members to constitute the special committee to whom was referred the memorial of the Iroquois Indians : Mr. Smalley of Burlington, "Munson of Manchester, "Bailey of Windsor, (6 Hall of Groton, "Reed of Pawlet.

Petitions of sundry persons, praying for the enactment of a law regulating railroad tariffs, were severally presented, and referred to the Committee on Railroads, as follows: By Mr. Wells, that of R. W. Hyde and thirty-nine others; By Mr. Noble, that of T. R. Hazard and forty others; By Mr. Cook of Mendon, that of Fayette Barney and nineteen others, all citizens of Rutland county.

A message from the Senate by Mr. Baldwin, their Secretary, as follows:

MR. SPEAKER: I am directed to inform the House that the Senate have considered a joint resolution from the House, relating to a joint committee on the final adjournment of the General Assembly;

And have adopted the same in concurrence.

The Senate have, on their part, appointed the following named senators to constitute the joint committee on final adjournment, as provided by joint resolution :

The Senate have passed a bill entitled

S. 31. An act to amend section two of an act entitled "An act relating to witnesses in prosecutions for selling

or furnishing intoxicating liquors," approved November 27, 1872;

In the passage of which the concurrence of the House is requested.

The Speaker laid before the House a communication from the Secretary of State, as follows:

Senate bill entitled

S. 31. An act to amend section two of an act entitled "An act relating to witnesses in prosecutions for selling or furnishing intoxicating liquors";

Was read the first and second times, and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.

Bills of the following titles were severally read the third time and passed:

H. 65. An act to amend section fourteen of chapter fifteen of the General Statutes, relating to town officers;

H. 75. An act relating to the collection of school district taxes.

Bills of the following titles were severally introduced, read the first and second times, and referred, as follows:

H. 154. An act to pay the tuition of indigent students in the University of Vermont and State Agricultural College, and to pay the salary of a Professor of Agriculture therein;

H. 155. An act to pay Charles H. Joyce the sum therein named ;

To the Committee on Claims.

Mr. Kelton presented the petition of Rev. Sewall Paine and forty-nine others, citizens of the town of Montgomery, praying for amendments to the probibitory laws of the State;

Which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary. House bill entitled

H. 135. An act to repeal section one of chapter two of the General Statutes, relating to the appointment of a Board of Education and all acts relating thereto;

Was taken up as a special order for the hour (eleven o'clock and thirty minutes).

The question being stated, Will the House reconsider its vote, whereby said bill was referred to the Committee of the Whole?

It was decided in the affirmative,

So the vote was reconsidered.

Mr. Davenport then moved to dismiss the bill;

Which motion was lost; and the bill was thereupon referred to the Committee on Education.

On motion of Mr. Newell of Shelburne, the House adjourned.

AFTERNOON.

Mr. Stocker, from the Committee on the Grand List, to whom was referred House bill entitled

H. 21. An act in amendment of an act approved November 7, 1872, entitled "An act for the collection of taxes";

Reported adversely to its passage';

And the third reading of the bill was refused.
