Mr. Hyde offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Committee on Railroads be and they

are hereby empowered to send for persons and papers in their discretion necessary in the investigation of any matters that may properly come before them ;

Which was read and adopted.

Mr. Batchelder of Arlington offered the following joint resolution:

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives, That the President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives adjourn their respective Houses without day, on Friday, the 13th day of November next, at six o'clock in the morning, and that no bill be introduced into either House without unanimous consent thereof, after Friday, November 6th,

Which was read and referred to the Special Committee on Final Adjournment.

Reading of Scriptures and prayer by the Chaplain. On motion of Mr. Beattie, the reading of the journal of yesterday was dispensed with.

Mr. Peck presented the petition of Leonard F. Mason and thirty-four others, citizens of the town of Ira, pray. ing for the passage of a law regulating railroad tariffs; Which was referred to the Committee on Railroads.

Mr. Davenport presented the remonstrance of Eri Allen and sixty-two others; that of Stephen Harrington and twenty-six others, all citizens of the town of Bennington, against proposed changes in the limits of the village of Bennington or of Bennington Graded School District;

Which were read and referred to the Committee on Education.

On motion of 'Mr. Hyde the reference, to the Committee on the Judiciary, of House bill entitled

H. 146. An act in amendment of, and in addition to, "An act establishing a Board of Agriculture, Mining and Statistics,"

Was recalled, and the bill was referred to the Committee on Agriculture.

The House agreeing thereto, the bill, as amended, was read the third time and passed.

AFTERNOON.

Mr. Hyde presented the petition of Rev. Lewis Woodruff and sixty-three others, citizens of the town of Castleton, praying for amendments to the prohibitory laws of the State;

Which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary. Also, that of the Hydeville Company and fifty others, praying for the enactment of a law increasing the tolls for grinding grain;

Which was referred to the Committee on Manufactures.

House bill entitled

H. 68. An act to amend an act approved November 26, 1872, relating to the grand list;

Was read the third time and passed.

Mr. Dana, from the General Committee, to whom was referred House bill entitled

H. 16. An act in amendment of an act approved November 15, 1870, entitled "An act in amendment of an act entitled, an act to amend chapter seventeen of the General Statutes, relating to births, marriages and deaths, and for the better registration thereof," approved November 15, 1869;

Reported adversely to its passage;

Whereupon the third reading of the bill was refused.

Mr. Whitcomb, from the Committee on Highways, Bridges and Ferries, to whom was referred House bill entitled

H. 51. An act to incorporate the Frontier Navigation and Transportation Company;

Reported in favor of its passage, when amended in section six, line twelve, and in section seven, line four, by striking out in each the word " Franklin," and inserting in lieu thereof, the words Grand Isle; also by adding to said bill another section, as follows:

Sec. 9. This act shall be subject to the action of any fu ture legislature of this State to alter, amend or repeal, as the public good may require.

The amendments were agreed to, and the bill, as amended, was read the third time.
