Mr. Hyde, from the select committee to whom was referred Senate bill entitled

S. 1. An act relating to reporters of the Senate; Reported in favor of its passage, recommending that the House propose to the Senate to amend the bill by striking out all after the word "appoint," in the third line of section one, and inserting in lieu thereof the following:

One assistant reporter therefor, whose duty it shall be to assist the reporter to furnish, at the close of each day's session, daily reports of the proceedings of the Senate, for publication in the daily newspapers of the State, and whose compensation shall be three dollars per day.

Sec. 2. This act shall take effect from its passage.

The House agreeing thereto, the bill was thereupon read the third time and passed in concurrence with a proposal of amendment.

Mr. Fitts of Wardsboro presented the petition of Chester Dingman and thirty-four others, inhabitants of the town of Wardsboro, praying for amendments to the prohibitory laws of the State;

Which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.

Mr. Grout of Newport offered the following resolution: WHEREAS, We deem special legislation unwise, when the ends sought can be as well attained under general laws; therefore,

Resolved, That the Committee on the Judiciary be instructed to examine and inquire, whether the existing laws authorizing the formation of corporations by voluntary association are sufficiently plain and liberal in their forms and requirements for such organizations, and report by bill or otherwise;

Which was read and adopted.

Mr. Hubbard offered the following joint resolution; Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives, That the use of the Hall of the House of Representatives be granted to the Vermont Dairymen's Association, for their annual address by President M. H. Buckham, of the University of Vermont and State Agricultural College, on the evening of Wednesday, the 21st day of October, current; Which was read and adopted on the part of the House. On motion of Mr. Whithed, the House adjourned.

A message from the Senate, by Mr. Baldwin, their Secretary, as follows:

MR. SPEAKER: I am directed to inform the House that the Senate have on their part adopted a joint resolution providing for a Joint Assembly to hear the report of the committee appointed to canvass the votes for county and probate officers;

In the adoption of which the concurrence of the House is requested.

Joint resolution from the Senate as follows:

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives, That the two Houses meet in Joint Assembly, in the Hall of the House of Representatives, on Tuesday next, October 13, 1874, at half past two o'clock in the afternoon, to hear the report of the committee appointed to canvass the votes for county and probate officers, and, if necessary, to complete the election of the same;

Was read and adopted in concurrence.

MR. SPEAKER: I am directed to inform the House that the Senate have considered joint resolution from the House relating to Joint Rules;

And have adopted the same in concurrence.

Mr. Davis of St. Albans introduced a bill entitled

H. 17. An act to amend section thirty-three of chapter thirty-one, of the General Statutes;

Mr. Wright of Waltham offered the following joint resolution :

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives, That the Hon. John H. French, Secretary of the Board of Education, be invited to address the General Assembly, in the Hall of the House of Representatives, on Tuesday, October 20th, at 7 o'clock, P. M;

Which was read and adopted on the part of the House.

Mr. Guild offered the following resolution :

Resolved, That the Committee on Manufactures be instructed to examine the proposed reciprocity treaty with Canada, and to report to this House their opinion as to the effect its ratification would have upon the manufacturing interests of the State, in order that the legislature may make such recommendation to our delegation in Congress, in regard to the treaty, as they may deem proper;

Which was read and adopted.

Mr. Walston introduced a bill entitled

H. 18. An act changing the boundary line between the towns of Williston and Jericho ;

Which was read the first and second times, and referred to a special committee of three members.

Mr. Gilman offered the following joint resolution :

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives, That the use of the Representatives' Hall is hereby granted to the Vermont Colonization Society, on Thursday eve ning, October 22;

Which was read and adopted on the part of the House. A message from the Senate, by Mr. Baldwin, their Secretary, as follows:

MR. SPEAKER: I am directed to inform the House that the Senate have considered joint resolution from the House, granting the use of the Hall of the House of Representatives to the Vermont Dairymen's Association; And have adopted the same in concurrence.

The Senate has considered House proposal of amendment to Senate bill entitled

And have passed the same in concurrence.
