And have adopted the same in concurrence.

Mr. King of Lunenburgh introduced a bill entitled

H. 19. An act relating to the duties of Town Superindents;

Which was read the first and second times, and referred to the Committee on Education.

Mr. Gilman offered the following joint resolution:

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives, That the use of the Hall of the House of Representatives on Tuesday evening, October 13, 1874, be granted to the Vermont Historical Society for their annual meeting and address;

Mr. Perrin offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Committee on Roads, Bridges and Ferries be directed to inquire whether some legislation is not necessary to secure promptness and efficiency in the

repairing of highways and bridges, and to guard towns against unjust damages and costs incurred by the travelling public, and report by bill or otherwise;

Which was read and adopted.

Mr. Dana offered the following joint resolution: Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives, That the Joint Committee on the Reform School be instructed to inquire into the expediency of establishing a reformatory institution for girls, upon a similar basis to that already established for boys at Waterbury, and report by bill or otherwise;

Which was read and adopted on the part of the House. Mr. Winslow introduced a bill entitled

H. 23. An act to change the name of Minnie Felton and constitute her heir-at-law of Mark G. and Mary E. Metcalf;

Which was read the first and second times, and referred to the General Committee.

Mr. Winslow also presented the petition of Mark G. Metcalf and Mary E. Metcalf, praying for the passage of an act changing the name of Minnie Felton to Minnie Felton Metcalf, and constituting her their heir-at-law;

Which was also referred to the General Committee.

Mr. Slade introduced a bill entitled

H. 24. An act amending "An act incorporating Middlebury village";

Which was read the first and second times, and referred to the Committee on Corporations.

Mr. Kelton offered the following resolution:

Mr. Holden of Clarendon, introduced a bill entitled

H. 25. An act in addition to act number seventy-six, passed in 1870, entitled "An act to protect butter and cheese manufacturers ";
