A message from the Senate, by Mr. Otis, their Secretary.

Mr. Speaker : The Senate have concurred in the amendments of this House to the bill“ for the relief of Alexander Scott," with amendments in which they desire the concurrence of this House.

A message was received from the President of the United States, by Mr. Graham, notifying that the President did, this day, approve and sign

“ An act to reward the officers and crew of the sloop of war llornet, and lieutenant Elliott and his ollicers and companions ;"

* An act freeing from postage all letters and packets to and from the Superintendent General of military supplies ;"

* An act to incorporate a company for making a cer. rain turnpike road in the county of Alexandria," and

•• An act to incorporate a company for making a cer. tain turnpike road in the county of Washington in the district of Columbia."

Ordered, That the Clerk do acquaint the Senate therewith.

The House again resolved itself into the committee of the whole House to whom was committed the bill for thie assessment and collection of direct taxes and internal duties, and other tax bills; and after some tine spent therein, Mr. Speaker resumed the chair and Mr. Desha reported, that the committee had, according to order, again had the said bills under consideration and directed him to report the bill to lay du. tics on licenses to retailers of wines, spirituous liquors and foreign merchandise, with amendments; also the bill laying duties on bank notes and on notes of hand and foreizu bills of exchange of certain descriptions,

with amendments; and had directed bim to ask leave to sit again on the other subjects referred to them.

Ordered, That the committee of the whole House have leave to sit again.

The amendments to the hill laying duties on li. censes to retailers of wines, spirituous liquors and foreign merchandise, were read and concurred in by the touse.

And then the House adjourned until to-morrow morning, ten o'clock.

A message from the Senate by Mr. Olis, their Se. cretary.

Mr. Speaker: The Senate have passed the bill s to establish the town of Mobile a port of entry,with amendments, in which they desire the concur. rence of this House.

The said amendments were read at the, Clerk's ta. ble and concurred in.

Ordered, That the Clerk do acquaint the Senate therewith.

Mr. M.Kim presented a petition of Joshua Dorsey, of Baltimore, praying to be released from prison where he is confined ou juilgments obtained against him at the suit of the United Stales, as surety in certain reyenue bonds.

Mr. Cheves presented a petition of sundry onners of private armed vessels, praying that the duties on prize gouils brought in private armed vessels may be reduced.

Ordered, That the said petitions be referred to the Committee of Ways and Means.

Mr. Bcall presented a petition of sundry inhabi. tants of Beaver county, state of Pennsylvania, pray.

ing that a post-route may be established from. Washington, by Mount Pleasant, Burgettstown, George. town and West Union, in Pennsylvania, to New Lisbon, in Olio.

Mr. Beall also presented a petition of sundry inhabitants of Beaver couuty aforesaid, praying that a post-route may be established from Beavertown to Burgettstown.

Ordered, That the said petitions do lie on the table.

Mr. Robertson presented a petition of the presi. dent, directors and company of the Bank of Orleans, praying to be reimbursed the amount of monies lately advanced by them to facilitate the military operatious in the southern district of the United States.

Ordered, That tho said petition be referred to the Committee of Ways and leads.

Jr. Bibh, from the Conmitiee of Ways and Veans, reported the agreenient of that committee to the amend ments of the Senate to the bill “ for the assessment and collection of direct taxes and interpal duties," with an amendment, which, together with the amend. nents of the Senate, were read and concurred in by the House,

Ordered, That the Clerk do acquaint the Senate therewith,

Mr. Roberts, from the committee to whoin was recommitted the bill froin the Senate “ suppleinentary to the acts heretofore passed on the subject of an upiform rule of naturalization,” reported the same with amendments, which were read and referred to a committee of the whole House on Saturday next.

The following order was moved by Mr. Goldsborough,

Ordered, That 5,000 copies be printed of the resolution passed by this Hlouse on the 1st day of March last, requesting certain information from the President of the United States relative to the French decre purporting to be a repeal of the Berlin and Milan de. crees, and of the cominunication made to this House by the President ou the 3d of the silnie month, in consequence of that resolution, and also of the resolutions of the House of the 21st of June last, requesting fur. ther information on the same subject.
