By Mr. Sokol, House file 113, a bill for an act to amend section 2832 of the code in relation to the distribution of textbooks in counties adopting a uniform series.

By Mr. Downing, House file No. 114, a bill for an act to amend section 2448 of the code of Iowa, relating to the sale of intoxicating liquors.

Read first and second time and referred to committee on Suppression of Intemperance.

The Journal of Thursday, January 24th, was corrected and approved.

W. E. Haven appeared and was sworn in as clerk of committee on Agricultural College.

On motion of Mr. Sauer, House file No. 9, a bill for an act to amend section 3138 of the code, in relation to hotel and innkeepers' liabilities, with report of committee recommending that the same do pass with amendments, was taken up, and considered.

Mr. Sauer moved that the report of the committee, recommending the following amendment, be adopted:

"Strike out all of paragraph one (1) in section one (1).”
Carried.

The bill was read for information.

Mr. Wilson of Keokuk, objected to further consideration of the bill at this time, because of printed bills not being on the members' desks.

The objection was sustained.

Mr. Stewart moved that the chair appoint a committee of three to investigate and report as to the reason why printed bills are not furnished by the state printer.

Carried.

The Speaker appointed as such committee, Messrs. Stewart, Santee and McAleer.

Mr. Buchanan called up House file No. 54, a bill for an act to amend section 732, chapter 4, title 5 of code, providing for levy of library tax in cities of first class, having a population of less than 25,000, with report of committee recommending that the same do pass, was taken up, considered, and the report of the committee adopted.

The bill was read for information.

Mr. Buchanan moved that the rule be suspended, and that the bill be considered engrossed and read a third time now, which motion prevailed, and the bill was read a third time.

On the question, Shall the bill pass?

On motion of Mr. Hurn, House file No. 52, a bill for an act to amend section 5373 of the code, relative to the offering of evidence on the part of the state in the trial of criminal causes, with report of committee recommending that the same do pass with amendments, was taken up and considered.

Mr. Hurn moved that the report of the committee, recommending the following amendments, be adopted:

"By inserting the words 'five thousand, three hundred seventy-three' before the figures 5373, and by adding the words 'of record' after the word 'attorney' at the end of section one (1)."

Carried.

On motion of Mr. Hurn the amendments recommended by the committee were adopted.

Mr. Hurn moved that the rule be suspended, and that the bill be considered engrossed and read a third time now, which motion prevailed, and the bill was read a third time.

Referred to committee on Womans' Suffrage.

Mr. Davis presented petition of barbers and citizens of Hamburg urging the passage of House file No. 50, relative to barbers.

Referred to committee on Public Health.
