Substitute for Senate file No. 21, a bill for an act to amend section 2490 of the code, relative to the payment of coal miners.

Read first and second time and referred to committee on Mines and Mining.

On motion of Mr. Wilson of Buena Vista, House file No. 20, a bill for an act to amend section 1848 of the code, relating to banks, with report of committee recommending that the same do pass, was taken up, considered, and the report of the committee adopted.

Mr. Jones moved that House file No. 20 be made a special order for Wednesday, January 31st, at 11:00 o'clock.

Carried.

On request, leave of absence was granted Mr. Barrett until Tuesday at 2 P. M.

On request, of Mr. Cowles, leave of absence was granted Mr. Hurn until Tuesday.

On request, indefinite leave of absence was granted Mr. Eaton.

On request, leave of absence was granted Mr. Scott until Tuesday at 2 P. M.

Mr. Sauer called up House file No. 9, on the Calendar.

Mr. Sauer moved that the rule be suspended, and that the bill be considered engrossed and read a third time now, which motion prevailed, and the bill was read a third time and by unanimous consent the paragraphs of the bill were renumbered. On the question, Shall the bill pass?

Mr. Theophilus moved to amend the title so that the section number in words would precede the numerals.

The motion prevailed, and the title as amended was agreed to.

Mr. Cowles moved that the House adjourn until 2 P. M. Monday.

Mr. Wilson of Washington moved to amend by striking out the word "Monday" and inserting the word "Tuesday."

The Speaker ruled that the amendment was out of order.
The motion to adjourn prevailed.
