shall be constructed in a substantial and workman-like manner, at least eighty-five feet long in the chamber, between the upper and lower gates, and at least fifteen feet wide in the clear, between the walls; and all culverts, aqueducts, dams and other fixtures, shall be constructed in like substantial manner, of such materials and dimensions as the circumstances of the case may requite. Preamble and Act to repeal an Act, entitled an Act to incorporate the stockholders of the Bank of Milwaukee.

Whereas, it appears from the report of the Committee appointed by a joint resolution of the two Houses of the Legislature, at its last session, to investigate the affairs of the Bank of Milwaukee, that said Bank has not gone into operation according to the requisitions of its charter. Therefore,

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin,

That an act entitled "an act to incorporate the stockholders of the Bank of Milwaukee," approved, November 30th 1836, be, and the same is hereby repealed, and that the charter granted by said act, be, and the same is hereby annulled, vacated and made yoid. Approved, March 11th, 1839.

AN ACT to provide for the Compensation of the officers of the Legislative Assembly, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin,

That there shall be paid out of the sum appropriated by Congress for defraying the expenses of the Legislative Assembly, for the year one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine.

To Lucius I. Barber, Speaker of the House of Representatives, three dollars per day, extra for fifty days, one hundred and fifty dollars.

To John W. Blackstone, for three days services as speaker pro. tem, three dollars per day extra, nine dollars.

To John Catlin, chief cherk, for fifty days serviees at six dollars per day, three hundred dollars.

To A. W. Wright, assistant clerk, for fifty days services at five dollars per day, two hundred and fifty dollars.

To George Batchelder, for thirty one days services as transcribing clerk, four dollars per day, one hundred and twenty four dollars.

To Charles L. La Grave, transcribing clerk, for fifty days services at four dollars per day, two hundred dollars.

To William B, Street, transcribing clerk, for fifty days services at four dollars per day, two hundred dollars.

To Thomas J Mormon, serjeant at arms, for fifty days services at four dollars per day, two hundred dollars.

To George McIntyre, for fifty days services as door keeper, four dollars per day, two hundred dollars.

To James Morrison, for rent of Library room, to February first eighteen hundred and thirty-nine, seven months, at twelve dollars per month, eighty-four dollars-for transporting Library from Galena to Madison, sixty dollars; for drayage and storage, four dollars and eighty-five cents; for stove pipe, fifty-six dollars and eighty-eight cents; for articles purchased by E. Childs, as per bill, for the use of the Legislature, sixteen dollars and sixty-three cents; for articles furnished as per bill, for the use of the Legislature, and for making desks, railing, table, for Territorial seal, and for stoves, four hundred and seventy-seven dollars and forty-two

cents.

To Peter B. Grignon, for bringing up journals of last session of the House of Representatives, and for copying memorials, sixty dollars.

To Moses M. Strong, in full for services and penses as fiscal agent, seven hundred and six dollars and fifty cents; for examining the title to the ground on which the Capitol stands, under a reso lution of the Legislative Assembly, one hundred and twenty-four dollars.

To William B. Slaughter, Secretary of the Territory, for office reut, fuel, lights, &c., two hundred dollars; allowance for postage, fifty dollars; furnishing copies of the laws of last session for publication, one hundred dollars; for going to St Louis and negotiating, receiving [and] transporting the sum of twenty thousand dollars and disbursing the same, eight hundred dollars, including all

expenses.

To James E. Quaw, for services as transcribing clerk to the House of Representatives, eleven days at four dollars per day, forty four dollars.

To John Walker, for nineteen days services as transcribing clerk, four dollars per day, seventy six dollars.

To William T. Sterling, for services in taking charge of the furniture of the Legislative Assembly during the recess of the Leg islative Assembly, fifteen dollars.

To William B. Slaughter, account in collecting draft, land office at Milwaukee, as per bill, one hundred dollars.

To Daniel H. Richards, Editor of Milwaukee Advertiser, for papers furnished members of Legislative Assembly, as per bill rendered, six dollars.

To Henry S. Baird, for services as clerk for the Committee to examine the bank of Wisconsin, fifty dollars.

To E. Childs, for articles of stationary furnished for the use of the Legislative assembly as per bill rendered, eight dollars.

For services in procuring pursuant to a joint resolution of the two houses, furniture, stationary &c. for the use of the Legislative Assembly, two hundred dollars.

To George C. S. Vail, for thirty days services as clerk of the revision committee on the part of the House of Representatives, one hundred and twenty dollars.

To William T. Sterling, for two months services as Librarian under the old law at eight dollars per month, sixteen dollars.

To Josiah A. Noonan, on account of printing done during the last and present session of the Legislature, nine thousand dollars.

To Daniel H. Richards, for publishing in the Milwaukee Advertiser, the laws passed at the first session of the present Legislature, sixty dollars.

To James Maxwell, George Willson and Wm. A. Prentiss, for extra services on committee to investigate the proceedings of the commissioners on the public buildings at Madison, thirty six dollars each.

To James Collins, President of the Council, three dollars per day extra pay, one hundred and fifty dollars.

To William A. Prentiss, for three days services as president pro. tem. at three dollars per day, nine dollars.

To George Beatty, secretary of the Council, six dollars per day, three hundred dollars.

To George C. S. Vail, for making copies of memorials to the Congress of the United States, ten dollars.
