A bill entitled, "An act to amend the Chartor of the Union Bank of Florida," was again read and ordered for a third reading on to-morrow.

The House then adjourned until to-morrow morning at 11 o'clock.

Friday, January 29.

The House met pursuant to adjournment, a quorum being present, the journal of yesterday's proceedings was read.

mr. Berthelot pursuant to previous notice asked and ob tained leave to introduce a bill entitled, "An act to alter & change the terms of the Superior Courts for the Middle District of Florida," which was read and referred to the Judiciary committee.

mr. Tabor gave notice that he will on some future day ask leave to introduce a bill to be entitled, "An act to alter and change the time of holding the county courts of Washington county."

mr. Dennis asked and obtained leave, without previous notice(the rule being waived for that purpose) to introduce a bill entitled, “An act to repeal an act to authorize John M. Wright te establish a ferry on the Ocklocknee river and for other purposes," which was read and ordered for a second reading on to-morrow.

mr. Johnson gave notice that he will on to-morrow ask leave to introduce a bill for the relief of the militia of Florida, called into the service of the United States.

mr. Brown of Jackson offered the following resolutions, RESOLED, That the Delegate in Congress be requested to renew his exertions to procure the passage of a law giving to the county of Jackson an additional member in the Legislative Council.

RESOLVED, That a copy of the foregoing resolutiɔn be duly certified and forwarded to the Honourable Joseph M. White.

Which was read and laid on the table.

my Hawkins offered the following resolution,

RESOLVED, That a select committee be appointed to inquire and make report for the certain information of this house and of the country, of the particular causes of the Indian War-of the mauner in which it has been conducted, of the various occurrences therein, of which certain and correct information can be obtained-of the forces hitherto engaged therein, and at what points, and of the necessary force to be employed hereafter-of the proba ble force and resources of the Indians, of the expense already incurred and the probable amount to be hercafter incurred, and all other useful information for this house or the public in relation to the War or its prosecution.

Which was read: on his motion the rule was waived, and said resolution was passed; messrs. Hawkins, Morton, M'Cants, Burritt and Johnson were appointed on the select committee thereby required.

Also the following:

RESOLVED, by the Legislative Council of the Territory of Florida, That the Delegate in Congress from this Territory be, and he is hereby requested to give renewed attention to the resolutions heretofore adopted by the Legislative Council of Florida, and reports of committees at former Sessions thereof, in regard to the establishment of another District in this Territory to be called the

Appalachicola District," and to urge the establishment of such district as highly necessary for the interests and prosperity of the citizens of Middle and West Florida.

RESOLVED, That the above resolution be duly certified and forwarded to the Hon. Joseph M. White.

Which was read and laid on the table.

mr. Hawkins from the committee on Enrolments, reported as correctly Enroled

"An act for the relief of Paul M'Cormick of Leon county."

"An act to organize a county to be called Dade county," and

"An act to authorize Jared P. Barber to establish a ferry across the St. Marys' river."

A bill entitled, "An act to incorporate the Pensacola Steam Saw mill company," was read the third time and passed ordered that the title be as before stated.

The following bills were postponed and made the order of the day for Monday.

A bill entitled, "an act to incorporate the Florida Insuiance and Banking company."

an act to amend an act to incorporate the Central Bank of Florida," and

A bill entitled, "an act to amend the charter of the Union Bank of Florida."

The House then adjourned until to-morrow morning eleven o'clock.

Saturday, January 30.

The House met pursuant to adjournment, a quorum being present, the journal of yesterday's proceedings was

read.

On motion of mr. Duval messrs. Smith and Downing are added to the militia committee.

mir. Tabor pursuant to previous notice asked and obtained leave to introduce a bili entitled, an act to alter and change the time of holding the county courts in Washington county," which was read and ordered for a third reading on Monday next.

tnr. Smith gave notice that on Monday he will ask leave of the House to introduce a bill entitled, "an act in addition to the several acts relating to the militia of Florida."

mr. Johnson pursuant to previous notice asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled, "an act for the relief of the militia of Florida, called out in the service of the United States," which was read and referred to the Judiciary committee.

mr. Burritt pursuant to previous notice asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled, "an act to alter and fix the time of holding the Spring term of the county court of Duval county."

mr. Smith presented the presentments of the Grand Jury for the counties of St. Johns and Mosquito, which on his motion was referred to the committee on the State of the Territory.

mr. Downing offered the following resolution, viz:

RESOLVED, That a committee of five be appointed to confer with the Executive of this Territory, to devise the best and speediest means of conducting to a successful close, the murderous war now raging in the heart of our country.

Which was read and the rule being waived, put on its passage, and passed: messrs. Downing, Smith, Burritt, Blount and Duval were appointed on said committee.

mr. Hunter offered the following resolution,

The resolution offered on yesterday by mr. Hawkins in relation to an additional Judicial District, was again read and adopted.

The House then adjourned until Monday next at 19 o'clock.

Monday, February 1.

The House met pursuant to adjournment, a quorum being present, the Journal of Saturday's proceedings was

read.

His Excellency the Governor transmitted to the House, the following Executive Message :

66 I return to you an act to prohibit the circulation of incendiary publications" and propose the following amendment, strike out the words "in any manner whatever" in the third line of the first section of said act, and insert in their stead the words " knowingly and with malicious intent" and in the sixth line of said section insert the words "short of death which is" between the words "punishment and known."

Which was read and on motion of mr. Duval the said bill is ordered to be reconsidered, and is made the order of the day for to-day.

mr. President laid before the House the Auditors Report for the year 1835, which on motion of mr. Blount was referred to the Finance committee.

mr. Duval gave notice that he will on to-morrow ask leave to introduce a bill entitled "an act for the relief of James Stewart."

mr. Blount pursuant to notice heretofore given asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled, 66 an act to authorize the guardian of the minor heirs of Thos. Wright deceased, to sell their real estate within this Territory," which was read and referred to the Judiciary committee.

mr. Smith pursuant to notice heretofore given asked & obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled " an act providing for the more effectual defence of the Territory of Florida," which was read and ordered for a second reading on to-morrow and 100 copies are ordered to be printed.

mr. M'Neil asked and obtained leave, without previous notice (the rule being for that purpose waived) to introduce a bill entitled, " an act to establish the 13th regiment of Florida militia, in the counties of Madison and Hamilton," which was read and ordered for a third reading on to-morrow.

mr. Walker presented the presentments of the Grand Jury of the counties of Columbia, Alachua and Hillsborough, which were referred to the committee on the State of the Territory.

mr. Duval offered the following resolutions, to wit:

WHEREAS a crisis has arrived in which a call has been made upon the personal services of our fellow-citizens, which cannot be responded to, without a sacrifice of intests which imperiously demands indemnification from

the General Government, which is bound to protect those who at such a period are unexpectedly appealed to, to abandon their crops at the most important season of the year, to relinquish the domestic comforts of home, and to leave their families to suffer, while they are averting on our frontier the bloody executions of the Savage Tomahawk and the scalping knife, must, as they should receive, some return for the important services they may render.

THEREFORE RESOLVED, That the Legislative Council of the Territory of Florida in council assembled, hereby solemnly pledge their influence and do request their Delegate in Congress to use all proper exertions to obtain from that body the passage of an act allowing a quarter section of Land, to every soldier whether volunteer or drafted, who shall serve in the war now waging against the Seminole Indians.

RESOLVED, That copies of the above, signed by the President and countersigned by the Clerk of the council, be sent by the Executive of this Territory to our Delegate in Congress, the President of the Senate, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, with a request that the same be submitted to the consideration of the Congress of the United States.

Which were read and laid on the table until to-morrow. The resolutions offered on Saturday last by mr. Hunter were on motion of mr. Downing amended by striking out "ten" and inserting in its stead "twenty" in the first resolution; when they were again read and passed.

A bill entitled, "an act to alter and fix the time of holding the county courts in Washington county," was read the second and third time (the rule being waived) and passed; ordered that the title be as above stated.

A bill entitled, "an act to alter and fix the time of holding the Spring term of the county court of Duval county," was read the 2d and 3d time (the rule being waiyed) and passed; ordered that the title be as above stated:

A bill entitled, "an act to repeal an act to authorize John M. Wright to establish a ferry on the Ocklocknee river and for other purposes," was on motion of mr. Dennis referred to a select committee; messrs. Dennis, Downing and Morton, were appointed thereon.

The bill entitled, "an act to prohibit the circulation of incendiary publications," was taken up from the orders of the day, when the House resolved itself into a committee of the whole thereon: after some time spent therein the committee rose, and mr. Smith therefrom reported said bill to the House amended; which report was concurred in by the House, and said bill was read the second and third time (the rule being waived) and passed: ordered that the title be as above stated.
