A bill entitled an Act, to amend an Act, entitled an Act, to incorporate a company to be called the St. Andrew's and Chipola Canal company, was read the third time and passed. Ordered that the title be as afore stated.

A bill entitled an Act to amend an Act, entitled an Act, to amend the charter of the Southern Life Insurance and Trust company, approved Feb. 1836, was read a third time and passed. Ordered that the title be as above stated.

A bill entitled an Act to amend an Act, to incorporate the St. Augustine and Picolata Rail-Road company, was read a third time and passed. Ordered that the title be as above stated.

The House went into secret session on the nominations therein contained, and advised and consented to the same, with the exception of J. C. Pelot, for Justice of the Peace, in Columbia county, he having removed therefrom.

A bill entitled an Act, to amend the several Acts of this Territory, providing for the election of Delegate to Congress and members of the Legislative Council, was on motion of Mr. Wood, taken from the table and placed among the orders of the day, and said bill was read the third time, the yeas and nays being required on its passage, by Messrs Brown and McNeill, were, Yeas,-Messrs. President, Brown Campbell, Gilliland, Johnson, Kenan, McNeill, Read, Stewart, Taylor and Wood, 11. Nays, Messrs. Downing, Fernandez, Fitzpatrick, Fontane, Hart, Levy, Long, Macon, Marvin, Robinson, Shehce, Tabor, Williams and Wright, 14. So said bill is lost.

On motion of Mr. Hart, it is ordered that the bill entitled an Act, to provide for the compensation of the Legislative Council and for other purposes, be amended in the House, by inserting at the end of the second section the words following, to wit:

To Sylvanus Ellis, for copying the Laws for the printer, two hundred and fifty dollars, which amendment was made, on the enroled bill read to the House and agreed to. And said bill was transmitted to the Governor.

Mr. Marvin offered a memorial addressed to the Congress

of the United-States, which was read and adopted, in the words following, to wit:

To the Congress of the United States.

The Legislative Council of the Territory of Florida, respectfully represent to your Honorable body, that it is most conducive to the interests of education in the Territory, and will best subserve the original intentions of Congress, to sell a certain portion of the School lands, heretofore reserved from sale in this Territory, and to invest the proceeds in some permanent securities and apply the interest of such proceeds only to the purposes of School education.

They therefore pray your Honorable body, to pass a law conferring full power on the Governor and Legislative Council, to sell such lands and appropriate the proceeds as afore

said.
