Mr. Marvin offered a resolution concerning a Public Library; which was read, and laid on the table till to-morrow. Mr. Read offered a resolution concerning the placing of tomb stones on the graves of Maj. Washington and Lieut. Yerger; which was read and laid on the table till to-morrow. Mr. Hart offered a resolution concerning the final adjournment of this House; which was read and laid on the table till to-morrow.

Mr. Read offered a resolution concerning the issue of Bank Bills below the denomination of five dollars; which was read and laid on the table till to-morrow.

A bill entitled an Act to prescribe the mode of appointing the Judges of the county courts and for other purposes, was taken from the orders of the day, read a second time and referred to the Judiciary committee.

Mr. Wright, on a former day, offered the following resolution.

Resolved, That the Secretary of the Territory be requestéd to order for the use of the next Legislative Council, to be paid for out of the contingent fund, the following public papers to be forwarded from the fifteenth day of December in each and every year to the tenth day of February to wit: three copies of the papers printed at Washington City, three papers from New York, three papers from the State of Alabama, three papers from the State of Georgia, and one copy of each of the papers published in this Territory. Which was again read and adopted.

Mr. Fitzpatrick, on a former day offered the following resolution.

Resolved, That the printer of the laws of the present session of the Legislative Council, be ordered to print with the laws of the present session, all the laws of Congress which relate to the Territory of Florida.

Which was again read and adopted.

Mr. Long, on a former day, offered the following resolution, to wit:

Resolved, That a select committee be appointed and directed to inquire into the progress of the compilation of the Statutes of the Territory, provided for by an Act approved February the 15th 1834, and report the causes of the delay which has occurred in the completion of said compilation, and the steps which have been taken by the Governor of this Territory in relation thereto, under an Act of this Council approved February 12th 1835, and that said committee be

clothed with the authority to send for persons and papers. Which was read and adopted.

Messrs. Levy, Wright, Long, Fontane, and McNeill were appointed the committee thereon.

An Engrossed Bill entitled an Act to change the county seat and place of holding the county courts of the county of Franklin, was read the third time and passed. Ordered that the title be as above set forth.

A remonstrance to Congress reported by a select committee was taken up, read and on motion of Mr. Downing was postponed till to-morrow.

Mr. Read, on a former day, offered a resolution by way amendment to the rules of the House, as follows, to wit:

The Council Chamber is the committee room of the House, it shall be the duty of the members of the different committees to meet every day, should the business before them require it, at 9 A. M. and 6 P. M. in said chamber, provided the said chamber be not occupied by the House in its regular sessions. This rule shall supercede the necessity of a particular notice from the chairman of committees, to the different members of said committees.

Which was read.

Bryan, Fontane, Hart, Levy Long, Marvin, Robinson, Tabor and Williams, 9-So the same is adopted as part of the rules of this House.

A bill entitled an Act in relation to the Florida Peninsula and Jacksonville and Union Rail Road Companies was read a second time and referred to the committee on Internal Improvements.

A bill entitled an Act to indemnify the people of Florida for losses sustained during the present difficulties with the Seminole Indians was postponed and made the order of the day for to-morrow.

The House then adjourned until to-morrow at ten o'clock.

TUESDAY, January 17, 1837. The House met pursuant to adjournment, a quorum being present, the journal of yesterday's proceedings was read. Mr. Taylor gave notice that he will on some future day ask leave to present a bill to amend and revive the several acts incorporating the town of Monticello in Jefferson county.

Mr. Tabor gave notice that he will on some future day,

ask leave to introduce a bill to be entitled an Act to incorporate the Middle and West Florida Rail Road Company.

Mr. Wright gave notice that he will on some future day, ask leave to introduce a bill to amend the charter of the City of Pensacola,

Mr. Read presented to the House the memorial of J. A. L. Norman upon the subject of education, and praying certain privileges therein asked for; which was read and referred to the committee on claims, and fifty copies are ordered to be printed.

A bill entitled an Act for the relief of the inhabitants of East Florida, was taken from the orders of the day, read a second time, and referred to a committee of the whole; the House went into committee thereon, and after some time spent in consideration, the committee rose, and Mr. Kenon, Chairman, reported progress to the House, and asked leave to sit again on said bill, which report was concurred in.

A bill entitled an Act to revive an Act to organise and regulate the militia of the Territory of Florida, and to repeal an Act passed first day of February one thousand eight hundred and thirty two, and for other purposes, was read the second time and referred to the committee on Militia.

A bill entitled an Act to amend and in addition to an Act to incorporate the St. Augustine and Picolata Rail Road Company, was read the second time and referred to the committee on Internal Improvements.

A bill entitled an Act to amend an Act to incorporate the Town of Jacksonville was read the second time and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading to-morrow.

The following resolution, heretofore offered by Mr. Marvin, was again read, and passed, to wit:

Resolved, That our Delegate in Congress be requested to obtain from Congress an appropriation of five thousand dollars, or a larger amount, if in the opinion of Congress it should be deemed necessary, for the purpose of purchasing a library for the use of the Court of Appeals and the Governor and Legislative Council of this Territory.

Resolved, That the above resolution be signed by the proper officers of this House, and transmitted to our Delegate, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Congress.

Mr. Read, on a former day, offered the following resolution to wit:

Resolved, That so much of the Governor's Message as relates to the erection of tomb stones over the graves of Maj. Washington and Lieut. Yerger, be referred to a select com

mittee, which was again read and adopted. Messrs. Read, Wood, and Shehee, were appointed upon that committee.

The following resolution offered on yesterday by Mr. Hart, to wit:

Resolved, That this House be adjourned sine die on Wednesday the eighteenth instant,

Was again read, and on motion of Mr. Downing, laid on the table till Wednesday the 18th inst.

The following resolution, introduced on yesterday by Mr. Read, was again read and adopted, to wit:

Resolved, That the committee on Banks be instructed to inquire into the expediency of prohibiting the issue of bills of less denomination than five dollars by the Banking Institutions of this Territory.

The remonstrance addressed to the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States, and reported to this House by a select committee, was, on motion of Mr. Downing, referred to the committee of the whole; the House went into committee, after some time spent therein, the committee rose, and Mr. Fitzpatrick, chairman thereof, reported said remonstrance to the House; which report was concurred in. The House, took under consideration said remonstrance. Mr. Downing moved a substitute therefor, and argument was had thereon; when on motion of Mr. Marvin, the House adjourned until to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock.

WEDNESDAY, Jan. 18, 1837. The House met pursuant to adjournmet a quorum being present, the journal of yesterday's proceedings was read. Mr. Wood gave notice that he will on some future day, ask leave to introduce a bill to be entitled an Act to incorporate the Franklin Bank of Florida.

Mr. Macon gave notice that he will on to-morrow, ask leave to introduce a bill to amend the charter of the Tallahassee Rail Road Company.

Mr. Long, pursuant to previous notice, asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill to be entitled an Act to amend an Act to incorporate a company to be called the St. Andrews and Chipola Canal Company; which was read, and ordered for a second reading on to-morrow.

Mr. Marvin, pursuant to previous notice, asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled an Act to aid the administration of justice in Monroe County; which was read by its title, and ordered for a second reading on to-morrow.

Mr. Macon, pursuant to previous notice, asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled an Act to amend the sev

eral Acts now in force in the Territory in relation to Roads and Highways; which was twice read, the rule for that purpose being waived, and referred to the committee on Internal Improvements.

Mr. Long, from the committee on Internal Improvements, to whom had been referred a bill entitled an Act to amend and in addition to an Act to incorporate the St. Augustine and Picolata Rail Road Company, reported the said bill without amendment, which report was concurred in; when on motion of Mr. Fitzpatrick, said bill was referred to the committee of the whole; the House went into committce, and after some time spent in consideration of said bill, the committee rose, and reported the same to the House amended; the yeas and nays being required on concurring with the committee of the whole, by Messrs. Downing and Fitzpatrick, were: Yeas, Messrs. Bryan, Fitzpatrick, and Read, 3-Nays, Mr. President, Messrs. Brown, Downing, Fernandez, Fontane, Gilleland, Hart, Johnson, Kenan, Levy, Long, Macon, Marvin, Robinson, Stewart, Tabor, Taylor, Williams, Wood and Wright, 20-So the House refused to concur in the report of the committee of the whole, and on motion of Mr. Levy said bill is laid on the table.

On motion of Mr. Levy it is ordered that the committee on the state of the Territory, to whom was referred the report of the Treasurer of Florida on the subject of School Lands, be discharged from the further consideration of said report and that the same be referred to the committee on Schools and Colleges.

The memorial to the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States, which was among the unfinished business of yesterday, was again taken up from the orders of the day; further argument being had thereon, Mr. Downing withdrew his proposed substitute therefor and moved that the further consideration of the same be postponed until the 4th day of July next, the yeas and nays being required on that motion by Messrs. Fitzpatrick and Marvin, were, Yeas: Messrs. Bryan, Downing, Fernandez, Fontane, Hart, Johnson, Long, Marvin, Robinson, Stewart, Tabor, Taylor, and Williams, 13-Nays, Mr. President, Messrs. Brown, Fitzpatrick, Gilleland, Kenan, Levy, Macon, Read, Wood, and Wright, 10.-So said motion prevailed, and the memorial is lost. The House then adjourned until to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock.
