Life Insurance and Trust Company, approved February 1836, which was twice read, the rule being waived, and referred to the Committee on Banks..

Mr. Read pursuant to previous notice, asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill to be entitled an Act, to incorporate the Florida Insurance Company, at Tallahassee, which was twice read, the rule being waived, and referred to the committee on Banks.

On motion of Mr. Wood, the message of his Excellency the Governor, transmitting reports from certain Banks was taken from the Table and referred to the Committee on Banks and fifty copies are ordered to be printed.

Mr. Wood pursuant to previous notice asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled an Act, regulating the fees of Notaries public in the Territory of Florida, which was read and ordered for a third reading to-morrow.

Mr. Tabor pursuant to previous notice, asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled an Act to incorporate the Washington Lumber Company, which was twice read, the rule being waived, and referred to the committee on Internal Improvements.

Mr. Wood pursuant to previous notice, asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill, entitled an Act, to incorporate the Florida Transportation Company, which was read and ordered for a second reading to-morrow

Mr. Mc Neil, presented the petition of Mrs. Hannah Stewart praying to be divorced from her husband, which was read and referred to a select committee, Messrs. Mc Neil, Johnson and Williams were appointed thereon.

Mr. Brown presented the petition of Silas Weeks, praying a divorce from his wife, which was read, and referred to a select committee, Messrs. Brown, Marvin and Tabor, were appointed thereon.

Mr. Downing offered a preamble and resolutions, concerning certain land grants in East-Florida, which was read and laid on the table till to-morrow.

Mr. Wood from the committee on Banks to whom had been referred a bill, entitled an Act, incorporating the Franklin Bank of Florida, reported said bill without amendment, which report was agreed to by the House.

Mr. Fontane, from the committee on Enrolments, reported the following bills, to wit:-

An Act, to establish a Superior Court, in the county of Dade, in the Southern district of Florida.

An Act to declare Holmes Creek, a navigable Stream.

An Act to amend the charter of the Tallahassee Rail Road company, and a

Resolution, requesting the Delegate to procure the passage of a law by Congress authorizing an additional Representative from Franklin county, which were signed by the Presi

dent.

Mr. Long from the committee on Internal Improvements, to whom the same had been referred, reported with amendments the following bills, to wit:

An act to amend an act entitled an Act, to incorporate a Company to be called the St. Andrews and Chipola Canal Company.

A bill entitled an Act to amend the several Acts now in force in this Territory, in relation to Roads and Highways, and

A bill entitled an Act to establish a ferry across St. John's River, at the Cow-ford; which were concurred in by the House.

Mr. Marvin, from the committee on Schools and Colleges to whom had been referred a bill, entitled an Act, to establish an Academy, in the county of Gadsden, and to incorporate the trustees thereof, reported said bill amended, which report was concurred in by the House.

Mr. Downing, from the Judiciary committee, to whom had been referred a bill, entitled an Act, to amend an Act, concerning Estrays, reported the same amended, which report was concurred in by the House.

Also from the same committee, to whom had been referred a bill, entitled an Act, to repeal an Act, to provide for Appeals and Writs of Error, in criminal cases, reported said bill without amendment, which was laid on the table till to

morrow.

Mr. Hart from the select Committee to whom was referred the petition of Mary Lolans, which was read, and ordered for second reading to-morrow.

An engrossed bill, entitled an Act, to repeal an Act, therein mentioned, was read the third time and passed: Ordered that the Title be an Act, repealing an Act, for the relief of grantees and claimants of land, in certain cases, approved Feb. 14th 1835.

A bill, entitled an Act, to indemnify the people of Florida, for losses sustained during the present difficulties with the Seminole Indians, was, on motion of Mr. Read, referred to a committee of the whole House. The House, in committee took the same under consideration. After some time, the committee, rose, and Mr. Johnson, chairman reported the same to the House, with all excepting the enacting clause stricken out, the yeas and nays being required by Messrs.

Read and Wood, on concurring in the report of the commit-. tee of the whole, were, yeas: Messrs. Downing, Fernandez, Fitzpatrick, Fontane, Gilliland, Hart, Long, Marvin, McNeill, Robinson, Tabor and Williams, 12. Nays, Messrs. President, Brown, Johnson, Levy, Read and Wood, 6. So said motion prevailed and the bill is lost.

The House went into committee of the whole on a bill entitled an Act, to amend and in addition to an Act, to incorporate the St. Augustine and Picolata Rail-Road company, After some time spent in consideration thereof, the committee rose, and Mr. Wood, chairman, reported said bill to the House, without amendment, the yeas and nays being required upon concurring in said report, by Messrs. Downing and Fizpatrick, were, Yeas-Mr. President, Messrs. Fernandez, Fontane, Gilliland, Hart, Johnson, Levy, Long, McNiell, Read, Robinson, Tabor, Williams and Wood, 14. Nays, Messrs. Brown, Downing, Fitzpatrick and Marvin, 4. So said report is agreed to.

The House then adjourned until to-morrow morning at 11 e'clock.

TUESDAY, Jan. 31, 1837: The House met pursuant to adjournment: a quorum being present, the Journal of yesterday's proceedings was read. Mr. Fitzpatrick gave notice that he will on to-morrow in-. troduce a bill to incorporate the Franklin Insurance Company.

Mr. Stewart presented the petition of Benjamine G. Thornton praying for certain allowances, which on motion of Mr. Wood, was postponed till the 4th day of July next.

Mr. Hart offered a resolution concerning an additional némber from Duval county, which was read and ordered for a second to-morrow.

An Act to incorporate the Southern College at St. Augustine was read the second time, when on motion the House went into committee of the whole thereon. After some time spent therein, the committee rose, and Mr. Wood, Chairman, reported said bill to the House amended; which amendments were concurred in and said bill is again ordered for a second reading on to-morrow.

An Act to revive and amend an Act incorporating the town of Marianna, was read the second time and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading on to-morrow.

An Act to incorporate a company for the establishment of a Ferry across the Ocilla River at the Flat Ford in Jefferson,

county, was read the second time and referred to the commit tee on Internal Improvements.

An address to the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States, was taken from the orders of the day and postponed till Thursday next, and four manuscript copies thereof were ordered.

An Act for the relief of the inhabitants of East Florida, was taken from the orders of the day and postponed until to

morrow.

A bill to be entitled an Act to provide for the erection of Tombstones over the graves of Maj. Washington and Lieut. Yerger, was taken from the orders of the day and postponed until tomorrow.

An Act to repeal all laws now in force in this Territory relating to the Militia, was taken from the orders of the day and laid upon the Table.

A bill to be entitled an Act, to revive an Act, entitled an Act, to organize and regulate the Militia of the Territory of Florida, and to repeal an Act, passed the fifteenth day of January, eighteen hundred and thirty-six, was taken from the orders of the day, and postponed till to-morrow.

A bill requesting the Governor to suspend the present draft of the militia, was postponed till the first day of July

next.

An Act to authorize John Whitehurst, guardian of the minor children of Sextus Camp, deceased, was read the third time, and the yeas and nays being required by Messrs. Marvin and Brown on the question of its passage, were yeas, Messrs. Brown, Fitzpatrick, Hart, Johnson, Kenan, Long Macon, Robinson, Stewart, Taylor, Williams and Wood, 12. Nays, Messrs. Fernandez, Fontane, Gilliland, Levy, Marvin, McNeill and Read, 7. So said bill was passed. Ordered that the title be as above stated.

An Act, to authorize Andrew Young, administrator of Barna McKinne, deceased, and guardian of Richard McKinne, to sell certain lands, and to execute conveyances for the same, was read a third time, and the yeas and nays being required by Messrs. Tabor and Marvin on the question of its final passage, were Yeas, Messrs. Brown, Fitzpatrick, Hart, Johnson, Kenan, Long, Macon, Robinson, Tabor, Taylor, Williams and Wood, 12. Nays, Mr. President, Messrs. Fernandez, Fontane, Gilliland, Levy, Marvin, McNeill, Read and Stewart, 9. So said bill was passed. Ordered that the bill be as afore stated.

An Act to authorize Mary W. Nuttall, to sell so much of the real and personal Estate of the late William B. Nuttall,

as she may deem necessary to pay the debts of the said estate, was read a third time and lost. After some time, Mr. Wood, from the majority moved to reconsider the vote taken on said bill which motion prevailed, and the yeas and nays being required by Messrs. Fitzpatrick and Long, on the question of its final passage, were Yeas, Mr. President, Messrs. Brown, Fitzpatrick, Hart, Johnson, Kenan, Long, Macon, Robinson, Tabor, Taylor, Williams and Wood 13. Nays Messrs. Fernandez, Fontane, Gilliland, Levy, Marvin, Mc Neill, Read and Stewart, 8, So said bill was passed. Ordered that the title be as afore stated.

A bill entitled an Act, to incorporate the town of St. Marks was read a third time and passed. Ordered that the title be as afore stated.

The memorial to Congress on the subject of School lands, was postponed till to-morrow.

A bill entitled an Act, regulating the fees of Notaries Public of the Territory of Florida, was read a second time and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading to-morrow.

A bill entitled an Act, incorporating the Florida Transportation Company was read a second time and referred to the committee on the state of the Territory.

The preamble and resolutions of Mr. Downing, concerning Grants of Land, in East Florida, was postponed till to

morrow.
