company, reported the same without amendment, which report was concurred in.

Mr. Long, from the committee on Internal Improvements, to whom was referred the petition of John Bellamy, reported favourably on said petition, by a bill entitled an Act, to authorize John Bellamy to render the Ocilla river, a navigable stream, which report was concurred in and said bill was read by the title, and ordered for a second reading to

morrow.

Also from the same committee, to whom had been referred a bill entitled an Act, to incorporate a company for the establishment of a ferry across the Ocilla river, at the flat ford in Jefferson county, reported the same with amendments, which report was agreed to, and said bill was placed among the orders of the day, for to-morrow.

Also from the same committee to whom was referred a bill to incorporate the Washington Lumber company, reported the same without amendment, which report was agreed to, and said bill is ordered to be placed among the orders of the day, for to-morrow.

Mr. Taylor from the committee on enrolments reported as correctly enrolled, an Act to establish a ferry across the St. John's river at the cow-ford.

An Act to authorize John Whitehurst, guardian of the minor children of Sextus Campbell, deceased, to sell certain land in the county of Jackson.

An Act to repeal an Act, to provide for Appeals and Writs of Error, in criminal cases.

An Act repealing an Act, for the relief of grantees and claimants of land, in certain cases, approved February 4th,

1835.

An Act incorporating the Franklin Bank of Florida, and an Act to incorporate the town of St. Marks.

Mr. Downing asked and obtained leave, (the rule being waived) to introduce a bill entitled an Act, to repeal an Act therein mentioned, which was read and ordered for a second reading to-morrow.

The House went into committee of the whole, on a bill entitled an Act to amend an Act to incorporate the St. Andrews and Chipola Canal company. After some time spent in consideration of said bill, the committee rose, and Mr. Gilliland, chairman, reported the same to the House, with a request to refer said bill back to the committee on Internal Improvements, with directions to that committee, to incorporate in the body of the bill, all the sections proposed therein,

to be enacted, which report was agreed to and said bill so referred.

Mr. Downing moved that the House do adjourn till to morrow morning at 10 o,clock.

The yeas and nays being required by Messrs. Tabor and Downing, were, Yeas,-Mr. President, Messrs. Brown, Bryan, Downing, Fitzpatrick, Gilliland, Hart and Wood. 8. Nays, Messrs. Fernandez, Johnson, Kenan, Long, Levy, Marvin, McNeill, Read, Robinson, Shehce, Tabor, Taylor, Williams and Wright 14. So said motion is lost.

A bill entitled an Act to amend the several Acts, now in force in this Territory, in relation to roads and highways, was postponed until to-morrow.

The House went into committee of the whole, on a bill entitled an Act, to amend an Act, concerning Estrays, after some time spent in consideration of said bill, the committee rose, and Mr. Read, chairman, reported said bill to the House amended, which report was agreed to, and said bill was read the second and third time, the rule being waived, and passed. Ordered that the title be as above stated.

The House then adjourned until to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock.

SATURDAY, Feb. 4, 1837. The House met pursuant to adjournment: a quorum being present, the Journal of yesterday's proceedings was read. Mr. Fitzpatrick pursuant to previous notice asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled an Act to increase the capital stock of the Lake Wimico and St. Joseph Canal and Rail Road Company, and to authorize said Company to extend their Rail Road to some point in Middle Florida, which was read and ordered for a second reading on Monday next. Mr. Wood, pursuant to previous notice asked and obtained leave to introduce the following bills, to wit:

A bill entitled an Act to incorporate the Protestant Episcopal Church in the city of Apalachicola, and a bill to incorcorporate the Protestant Episcopal Church in the city of St. Joseph, which were read and ordered for a second reading on Monday.

Mr. Wood gave notice that he will on Monday ask leave to introduce a bill to be entitled an Act to amend the charter incorporating the city of St. Joseph.

Also, a bill to be entitled an Act incorporating the marine Insurance Bank of Apalachicola.

Mr. Hart pursuant to previous notice asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled an Act to incorporate the St.

John's River Land and Lumber Company; which was twice read, the rule being waived, and referred to the committee on Internal Improvement.

Mr. Brown gave notice that he will on some future day ask leave to introduce a bill to be entitled an Act to authorize and permit Francis J. Ross to build a bridge across the Suwanee River at Gadsden Spring on said river.

Mr. Downing pursuant to previous notice, asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled an Act regulating the conveyances of non-residents; which was read and ordered for a second reading on Monday.

Mr. Marvin introduced a resolution concerning the introduction of bills into the House; which was read and ordered for a second reading on monday.

Mr. Johnson from the committee on elections to whom was referred a bill entitled an Act to amend the several Acts of this Territory providing for the election of Delegate to Congress and members of the Legislative Council, reported said bill without amendment, which report was concurred in and said bill was read, and ordered for a second reading on mondav.

Mr. Long from the committee on Internal Improvement, to whom was referred a bill entitled an Act to amend an Act entitled an Act to incorporate a company to be called the St. Andrew and Chipola Canal Company; reported said bill to the House amended, agreeably to the instructions of the House; which report was concurred in, and said bill was ordered to be placed among the orders of the day for monday

next.

Mr. Wood, from the committee on Banks to whom had been referred a bill entitled an Act to amend an Act to incorporate the Central Bank of Florida; reported said bill amended which report was concurred in, and said bill is ordered to be placed among the orders of the day for monday.

Mr. Fontane from the committee on enrolments, reported the following bills as carefully enroled, viz:

An Act to revive and amend an act incorporating the town of Marianna.

An Act to establish an Academy in the County of Gadsden and to incorporate the Trustees thereof.

An Act for the relief of the heirs of Joseph Delespine deceased.

And a Preamble and Resolution requesting our Delegate in Congress to obtain an appropriation to open a road from Lafayette Bayou, to Pickles Bluff, on the Choctawhatchie River.

Mr. Gilliland from the committee on the militia, to whom had been consigned the duty of drafting a bill to organize the militia of this Territory, reported a bill entitled an Act to reorganize the militia of the Territory of Florida; which was read and laid on the table.

Mr. Read from the select committee to whom was referred the petition of Jno. W. Levinus; reported a bill entitled an Act for the relief of John W. Levinus, which was twice read and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading on monday

next.

A bill entitled an Act to incorporate the town of Quincy, was read a second time and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading on monday next.

A bill entitled an Act to exempt real Estate and produce from auction duty was read the second time, and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading on monday.

The House went into committee of the whole on a bill entitled an Act concerning Jurors in the Southern District. After some time spent therein the committee rose, and Mr. Wright, chairman reported said bill to the House amended, which report was agreed to, and said bill was ordered to be engrossed for a third reading on monday.

The following Preamble and Resolution, heretofore offered by Mr. Levy, to wit:

Whereas, intelligence has reached this Legislative Council, that a course of Legislation is proposed and being acted upon in the Congress of the United States in relation to this Territory, of a nature unusual ruinous, and of doubtful legality, and whereas, the passage of a bill, a copy of which is now before this House, entitled an Act to authorise certain Rail Road Companies to construct Rail Roads through the public lands, in the Territory of Florida, and purporting to be a bill in progress of enactment in the said Congress of the United States, will be of serious detriment to the interests of this Territory, and will affect most injuriously its policy upon the subject of Internal Improvements, upon the steady pursuit of which, must depend its prosperity and importance, as a separate sovereignty when it shall have been admitted as a State into the Federal Union.

Therefore, be it Resolved, That a select committee be appointed to consider and report to this House as speedily as may be, such course as in their opinion may be advisable, for the adoption of this House upon the subject.

Was again read, and the yeas and nays being required by Messrs. Brown and Wood, on the question of its adoption, were, Yeas,-Messrs. Brown, Campbell, Fernandez, Fitz

patrick, Fontane, Gilliland, Levy, McNeil, Read, Robinson, Wood and Wright, 13. Nays, Messrs. Bryan, Johnston, Long, Marvin, Shehee, Williams, 6. So said resolution is

adopted.

The House went into committee of the whole on a bill entitled an Act, to amend the several Acts, regulating the County Courts. After some time spent therein, the committee rose, and Mr. Brown, chairman, reported said bill to the House, and asked leave to sit again thereon, which report was agreed to, and six manuscript copies thereof are ordered.

A memorial to Congress on the subject of the School lands was postponed till Monday next.

A bill entitled an Act for the relief of Silas Weeks, was read a second time, and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading on Wednesday next.

The House went into committee of the whole on a bill entitled an Act, to incorporate the Southern College. After some time spent therein, the committe rose, and Mr. Wood, chairman, reported said bill to the House, and asked leave to sit again thereon, which report was agreed to.

Mr. Read then moved an adjournment, the yeas and nays being required thereon by Messrs. Marvin and Wood, were, Yeas, Messrs. Brown, Bryan, Campbell, Fitzpatrick, Hart McNeill, Read, Shehee, Stewart, Williams and Wood, 11. Nays, Messrs. Fernandez, Fontane, Gilliland, Johnston Levy Long, Marvin, Robinson and Wright, 9. So said motion prevailed, and the House adjourned till Monday 12 o'clock,

MONDAY, Feb. 6, 1837.

The House met pursuant to adjournment: a quorum being present, the Journal of last Saturday's proceedings was read.

Mr. Fitzpatrick pursuant to previous notice, asked and obtained leave to introduce a bill entitled an Act to incorporate the East and South Florida Canal Company; which was read and ordered for a second reading to-morrow.

Mr. Downing presented the account of J. G. Padrick for pailing in the grave of Mr. Miles; which was referred to the committee on Finance.

Mr. Wood pursuant to previous notice introduced the following bills, viz:
