Prayer of David, when his friend Hushai the Archite joined him, its order to take part in his affliction, on the Mount of Olives, whither David had fled from the face of his son Absalom. 2 Sam. xv. 32-37.

To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

To the giver of victory. A Psalm of David.

1. BLESSED is he that considereth the poor : the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.

2. The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.

3. The Lord will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.

4. I said, Lord, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.

5. Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish?

6. And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity: his heart gathereth iniquity to itself; when he goeth abroad, he telleth it.

7. All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt.

8. "An evil disease," say they, "cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more."

9. Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom 1 trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me,

10. But thou, O Lord, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them.

11. By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.

12. And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever.

13. Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen.

6. O my God, my soul is cast down within me therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

3. O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles.

4. Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God.

5. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

1. WE have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old.

2. How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.

3. For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.
