Old Edtn. 602.

Revelation v., 12, 13.

WORTHY is the Lamb that was slain, and hath redeemed us to God by His blood; to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. Blessing and honour, and glory and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the Throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. Amen.

655

YE nations, offer to the Lord glory and might.
Ye monarchs, offer to the Lord glory and might.
Thou heaven, offer to the Lord glory and might.
The whole earth, offer to the Lord glory and might.
O give thanks to the Lord, praise Him, all ye people,
And ever praise His Holy Name.

Sing ye to the Lord, and ever praise His Holy Name.
All that has life and breath, sing to the Lord.

Joel ii., 12, 13; Deuteronomy iv., 29; Job xxiii., 3;
Psalm lv., 22; cviii., 5; xxv., 3.

YE people rend your hearts, and not your garments, for your transgressions; even as Elijah hath sealed the heavens through the word of God. I therefore say to ye, forsake your idols, return to God: for He is slow to anger, and merciful, and kind, and gracious, and repenteth Him of the evil. If with all your hearts ye truly seek Me; ye shall ever truly find Me. Thus saith our God. Oh! that I knew where I might find Him, that I might even_come before His presence. *Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee. He never will suffer the righteous to fall: He is at thy right hand. Thy mercy, Lord, is great; and far above the heavens. Let none be made ashamed that wait upon Thee.*

657

* Sometimes sung as a separate Anthem.

Ye sons of Israel, thank the Lord, sing praises to His glorious Name; O praise the Lord who liveth for ever, sing praises to Him now and for evermore. How blest

are they who rejoice to seek Him, gladly obey His Holy Word; who in His ways are ever walking.

Old Edtn. 603.

Acts i., 11; Psalm xlvii., 1.

Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into heaven. O clap your hands together, all ye people; O sing unto God with the voice of melody.

Old Edtn. 604.

1 Kings. i., 39, 40.

ZADOK the priest and Nathan the prophet anointed Solomon King. And all the people rejoiced and said, God save the King. Hallelujah. Amen.

APPENDIX.

660 Malachi iv., 5, 6; Isaiah xli, lv., lviii.; Psalm viii., 1.

BEHOLD, God hath sent Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord. And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children unto their fathers; lest the Lord shall come and smite the earth with a curse.

*But the Lord from the north hath raised One, who from the rising of the sun shall call upon His Name and come on princes. Behold, My servant and Mine elect, in whom My soul delighteth. On Him the Spirit of God shall rest: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of might and of counsel, the spirit of knowledge, and of the fear of the Lord.

*O come, every one that thirsteth, O come to the waters: come unto Him! O hear, and your souls shall live for ever!

*And then shall your light break forth as the light of morning breaketh; and your health shall speedily spring forth then; and the glory of the Lord ever shall reward you. Lord, our Creator, how excellent Thy Name is in all the nations! Thou fillest heaven with Thy glory. Amen.

Psalm cxxxvii.

BY BABYLON'S WAVE.

Here by Babylon's wave

The heathen hands have bound us,

Tho' afar from our land,

The pains of death surround us;

Sion! thy memory still

In our heart we are keeping,

662

And still we turn to thee,

Our eyes all sad with weeping.

Thro' our harps that we hung on the trees,
Goes the low wind wearily moaning:
Mingles the sad note of the breeze,

With voice as sad of sigh and groaning.
When mad with wine our foe rejoices,
When unto their altars they throng,
Loud for mirth they call-"A Song!
song of Sion sing, lift up your voices!"
O Lord, tho' the victor command

A

Our captivity sad and lowly,

How shall we raise Thy song so holy,
That we sung in our father's land.
Jerusalem, if we forget thee,

Let our hands remember not their power,
And our tongues be silent from that hour,
Jerusalem, if we forget thee.

Woe unto thee! Babylon mighty city,
For the day of thy fall is nigh!
For thee no hope, for thee no pity,
Tho' loud thy wail riseth on high!
Then shalt thou, desolate, forsaken,
Be torn from thy fanes and thy thrones.
In that day shall thy babes be taken
And dash'd against the stones,
Then unto thee, O Babylon the mighty,
Be woe, be woe, be woe!

Psalm xxvii., 8, 10, 11, 16.

HEARKEN unto my voice, O Lord, when I cry unto Thee: have mercy upon me and hear me. O hide not Thou Thy face from me, nor cast Thy servant away in displeasure. Thou hast been my succour, leave me not, neither forsake me O God of my salvation.

O tarry thou the Lord's leisure: be strong, and He shall comfort thine heart, and put thou thy trust in the Lord.

me.

Psalm xxxi.

INCLINE Thine ear to me, O Lord make haste to deliver O save me for Thy mercies' sake.

[blocks in formation]

I WILL lay me down in peace and take my rest, for it is Thou, Lord, only that makest me dwell in safety.

Psalm cxlvii., 12, 13, 14, 20.

665. old Edtn. 418.

PRAISE the Lord, O Jerusalem, praise thy God, O Sion. For He hath made fast the bars of thy gates, and hath blessed thy children within thee. He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the flour of wheat. He hath not dealt so with any nation; neither have the heathen knowledge of His laws. Praise ye the Lord. Hallelujah. Amen.

667

From the Te Deum.

THOU art the King of Glory, O Christ,
Thou art the everlasting Son of the Father.

*THOU judge of quick and dead,

Before whose bar severe,

With holy joy or guilty dread

We all shall soon appear.

Do Thou our souls prepare
For that tremendous day,

And fill us now with watchful care
And teach our hearts to pray.

Oh, may we thus insure

A lot among the blest,

And watch a moment to secure

An everlasting rest.

* Sometimes sung with the Anthem "Let us lift up our heart," No. 270.
