ELIJAH AND ELISHA Were prophets of "Israel" [northern kingdom] in the reigns of Ahab, Ahaziah, Jehoram, Jehu, Jehoahaz, and Jehoash. (See Table of Kings.) JONAH lived in the reign of Jeroboam II. (2 Kings xiv. 25), when Pul was probably king at Nineveh. The date 862 B. C. in margin of English Bibles is incorrect. JOEL is placed by some Amos. 810-784. writers fifty years earlier, Micah. 758-710. but, as Dr. Pusey shows, .....withoxt sufficient reason. AMOS is supposed by Pusey to have begun to prophesy after Hosea, and to have closed his work long before the end of Hosea's. But Hosea, according to Pusey, prophesied over seventy years, or from 795 to 723 B. C. Hence he would place Amos from 790 to 784 Nahum. B. C.
