But be they (suppose) the most excellent Preachers, yet Mens idifying depends nit on the Preacher's Gifts or Excellencies , but the Co-operation of God's Spirit and hit Blessing, of which there it no promise in the way of Schism or Separation , or otherwise than in the Churches Vnity and Communion.

As for the People, it k not really true that they edifiebetter in any ofthise instances in any of the separate Meetings, but they usually find another, even the worst sort of edifying by it. The Edification of particular Christians relates to the Churches edifying, and therefore must be in its Vnity. Indeed God sets the greatest^ value on his Churches edifying in Vnity , even more than any private Christians improvements. No edifying Hie that in Charity, and Schism is the highest breach of Charity.

And yet, suppose a better edifying in Separate Meetings, yet is this^nme of those reasons that warrant a. . Separation, and no Man can without sin break out of the Church's Vnity for better edifsmg. For,

I. It is as much the fundamental Law of Christ's Church its of all other Societies, that the publick good be preferred before any particular Christian's private advantage, and therefore all means of Edification must give way, and be subordinate to the Peace and "Unity of the Church.

?.. Such us go to Separate Meetings for better edifying, must of necessity fall under the heavy guilt ofSchilm.

5. This course of forsaking the Church for better edifying, is in the Church as sinful and as fooliflo. as Sedition or Rebellion for redressing Grievances is in the state.

4. It perverts all means of Edification,and frustrates God's end in them all; for they are in God's intentions to keep out Schism, and to be subservient to the Church's Feace and Vnity. All Church Officers are to design and endeavour this. Ministers are both Cburch-membersy and also Joynts to unite and compatt all the Parts of

should by no means occasion Divisions or Separations;
and for the People, for them to go whether they fnnfie
they can edifie most, perverts those means God gives
to edifie.

Quest. 19. Doth that communicating with the Elia-
b listed Church , which prosessed Separatists who have
quite left it, and have fixed themselves in a Separate
Meeting, perform when it may serve a turn, to qualifie
them for some gainful, honourable , or authoritative
Place or Office in the State , which of late some call
Occasional-communion, come up to, or answer any of the
right Rules or Measures of Cathiiick-unity or Church-
communion?

Ans. Such communicating of them that are fixd
Members'of a Separate Meeting is a bare-faced Hypt-
criste and a gross Abuse of the Church Ti.e very stating
the Case stews this. Besides,

1. The distinHion of Constant and Occasional-commu-

nion (as explained J is persestly Novel, unknown to the

Primitive Fathers or Churches

2. It accords with no found Rule ofCathilick-unity

or Church-communion, a! appears in Several instances,

palticularly, Occasional-communion must be as absurd

3. Tec Diliinflion hath no Foundation in, no Warrant

from the Holy Scriptures, but is contrary to them. They

give no liberty to bold Occasional-communion with that

Church with which Men are not satisfied to communi-

cate constantly.

4. Who so do it are self-condemned , for either they

sm in not communicating conliantly, or ttiey sin in com-
municating so much as occasionally.

C^uest. 20. Can those Persons be thought to do, as they ought as Church-members, and as to the maintaming of Catholick-unity and Church-communion, who gc to the Church and also to Separate Meetings indifferently and promiscuously as some accidental occasion prompts them t

Ans. In no wise as the case is put, no not neither when they go more constantly to the Church, and'only sometimes to the Meeting, wht yet will be loth to be accounted other than Members ofthe Church of England.

This will be still more plain by the Answer to the next Question.

Quest. 21. What is to be thought of two disthtl Churches in the fame Place or Parish? May not good Christians living where they are, communicate lawfully sometimes with the one, while he communicates constantly with the other, either as he hath occasion to draw him to either of them, or as he affeils the one better than the other.'

Ans. The only sinless Occasional communicating is that with another Orthodox Church, where a Man is by his occasion or by accident: But for two dist'mU Churches in one place , they are opposite Churches and opposite Bodies, and if a Man go constantly to the one, and occasionally to the other, or sometimes to the other, he muji be guilty either of Schism, or at least of abetting of, and partaking with Schism in the one of them.

A Constant Communion is doubtless every Christian's Duty with the'Orthodox Church he lives in.

But to obviate some Objections follow two other Questions. '.

Quest. 22. Is there no g«od Jenfe wherein a Christian may be said to be a Member of a particular Church, considered as distinU from other particular Churches, and what is that fense? , .

ADs. A baptised Person, or a Christian being primarily a Member of the Cathlick Church, is a Membet her of the particular Church he lives in , as distinU from other,partieular Chunhes., -as he is mier-iksimmediate Government, anil yet frill he communicates (wherever he is) as .a /Member of fflte tCatbilick Church , whether it be in his own National, -m'in a. Foreign Church, and every AS of Communion that he performs, if an AS of Catholick-communion with the subtle .Church all tie World over,, and with all .Christians in it.

A National •and.a.Diocefan Church briefly,explained. Quest. 2-2. Is there no good fense wherein a christian may be said to communicate with another particular Church Occasionally, being no Member as it, and whit sense is it?

Ans. A Man may in a good fense communicate Occasionally with another particular National Church whither providence brings-him., or by accident in another Parish, neither ofwhicl) have any appear ante of Schism, nor isthe famecafe-with a Mans. Occasional . communicating with an Estahliflied Church, the Communion whereof hei scruplesy and being-a professed Member of a Separate Church.
