T convenient times ufe to be alone, and laying afide all worldly cares & bufineffes, fpend now and then a fecret hour in ftri&t Self-examining, and Confider

ing, how the cafe ftands between God and thy foul. Ask thy felf these two serious Questions 1) How First,

First, What is it thy heart is most set upon ? What is thy great care, thy main defigne? What is it that doth moft deeply and most frequently poffefle thy thoughts? What is it that thou doft most love, and prize? and most defire to enjoy Is thy mind fo fpiritually inlightened as to fee the lovelineffe of God, and the greatneffe, and excellency of that Glory, that is to be had with him? fo as the main drift and bent of thy heart, is after the enjoyment of God, and to be happy with him for ever? Or doft thou find, that the main bent of thy heart is to the things of this World, to the Profits, the Pleasures, the fenfual fatisfactions of this life; and these things thou moft mindeft, regardeft, and laboureft for; thefe thy thoughts, and heart moft run upon.

Secondly, Ask thy felf, whether ever thou didft feel, and apprehend thy felf in a loft, and undone condition by reafon of thy fins? Haft. thou not feen thy felfe in danger of everlasting mifery? Haft thou ever put this ferious queftion to thy felfe, what fhall I do to be faved? Haft thou in this or the like manner ever dif courfed with thy felf?

O my foul, how ftands the cafe with me? What am I? Am I a true Convert? a real Penitent, a new Creature, one born again? Have I an intereft in Chrift? And is my peace made with God through him? or am I as yet
