many things which might well serve to humble us; first, and worst, inclined to sin, to follow after degrading and lowering things; and then subject to many loathsome diseases, which sometimes make us a burden to ourselves and to others.

Q. But will then this body rise again and be exactly the same?

A. It will rise again, but not the same body. It will be raised like unto Christ's glorious body, all its humiliation done utterly away.

Q. Then does it signify how we treat it, and what power we allow it to have now?

A. Our salvation depends upon it. We are told that our bodies are the temples of the Holy Ghost, and him that defileth it, with giving way to the sinful lusts of the body, him that defileth the temple of God, will God destroy.

Q. How long do these bodies last?
A. No fixed time; but man's life,

as a rule, is fixed at three score years and ten.

Q. How long will the glorified body last?

A. For ever and ever.

Q. But can you say all bodies will be like Christ's glorious body?

A. No; they will indeed last for ever, but I suppose some will have bodies with a spirit within like Satan's. Q. And what will become of them? A. They will be in torment for

ever.

Q. For ever-can they never get out?

A. No, never; if they don't become in a measure like Christ now they never can, for to the good and bad alike, the life beyond the grave is everlasting.

Q. What is the meaning of Amen?
A. "So it is," or "so be it."

Q. When does it mean "so be it ?"
A. At the end of every prayer.
Q. When "so it is?"

A. At the end of the Creed and a doxology.

Q. What does it mean in the Lord's Prayer?

66

A. If the Lord's Prayer ends with deliver us from evil," Amen seems to mean so be it." If you include the doxology, Amen seems to belong to it, and if it does, means "so it is," "Thine is the kingdom," &c.

Q. Express the Amen at the end of the Creed for the Baptismal Service?

A. "All this I steadfastly believe.' Q. What then are the chief things you learn in the Creed?

A. 1st, I learn to believe in God the Father, who hath made me and all the world. 2ndly, I learn to believe in God the Son, who hath redeemed me and all mankind. 3rdly, I learn to believe in God the Holy Ghost, who sanctifieth me and all the elect people of God.

Q. What is to redeem ?
A. To buy back.
Q. Explain a little more?

A. If I had no money to buy a loaf of bread, but I left some clothes in pawn till I could pay for the loaf, when I brought the money, or some one else brought it for me, I or he would redeem or buy back my clothes, and they would become mine again.

Q. Well, how has God the Son redeemed or bought us back?

A. Through sin we were forfeited to Satan; in his power, under sentence of death. The death of some sinless One was the payment which, and which alone, could set us free. Jesus, God the Son, made that payment and we are free.

Q. How is this expressed in Scripture?

A. Redeemed by the Blood of Christ, as a Lamb without blemish and without spot.

Q. Had this ransom or payment been foreshown or prefigured in the Old Testament ?

A. Yes; every "bloody" sacrifice pre

figured it. It was something innocent accepted in the stead or place of the guilty.

Q. Then what do we owe to Jesus Christ for this His love?

A. The thank offering of a lifelong, loving obedience.

THE COMMANDMENTS.

Q. Are you bound to obey everyone that chooses to command you to do or not to do anything?

A. No.

Q. Then, whom are you bound to obey?

A. Those who have a rightful authority over me.

Q. Well, supposing when you were leaving school, and you heard some one command you to go an errand for them, must you obey?

A. No.

you

Q. And so you refuse; but if found it was your father or mother?
