A message from the Council by their Secretary:

"Mr. Sheaker-The Council have insisted on their amend. ment to bill No. 7, " a bill to authorize Henry Thien to build a dam on the Milwaukee river," and have appointed Messrs. Crocker and Newland a committee of conference on their part to confer with a like committee to be appointed by this House, to which it is proposed to refer the said disagreement of the two Houses-a conferece is requested.

The Council have also insisted on their non-concurrence with

the House of Representatives in the first and third amendments of the House of Representatives to bill No. 6, a bill to divide the town of Warren, in the county of Milwaukee, and to estab. lish the town of Nemahbin," and have appointed Messrs. Mar. tin and Baker of the committee of conference on their part to confer with the committee appointed on the part of this House to which it is proposed to refer the said non-concurrence."

Mr. Long from the committee on enrolled bills, made the following amended report:

The committee on enrolment report that they did on yester. day present to his Excellency the Governor for his approval re. solutions entitled "Joint resolutions to authorize the cancelling of certain canal bonds"-that they were requested by his Excellency to report that he did not receive the said resolutions, and that the said resolutions were left by the committee on his Excellency's table.

Mr. Long from the same committee, reported "an act relative to the appointment of a Superintendent of Territorial property" to be correctly enrolled.

The Speaker signed the same, and it was ordered to be presented to the President of the Council for his signature.

On motion of Mr. Hamilton,

Ordered, That a committee of conference be appointed to confer with the committee of the Council to which the disagree. ment of the two Houses is referred relative to bill No. 7, [C. F.] entitled "a bill to authorize Henry Thien to build a dam on the Milwaukee river."

Messrs. Hamilton and Walker were appointed said committee.

Ordered, That the Council be acquainted therewith.

Bill No. 10, (C. F.) entitled "a bill to change the boundaries of certain towns therein named," was taken up for a third read. ing, and on motion of Mr. Darling ordered to lie on the table. On motion of Mr. Darling,

The House resolved itself into the committee of the whole, Mr. Tripp in the chair, for the consideration of the amendment of the Council and the report of the judiciary committee relative to bill No. 1, [H. of R. file] entitled "a bill to change the time of holding courts in certain counties of the second judicial dis. trict." After a short time spent therein, the committee rose and reported the amendment of the Council with an amendment. Pending the question on agreeing to the report of the committee, and

On motion of Mr. Hamilton,

Ordered, That the bill and amendment do lie on the table.
On motion of Mr. Agry,

The following resolution was adopted:

Resolved, by the Council and House of Representatives, That the joint select committee of the two Houses to which was referred the communication of Daniel Baxter, and the report of the building commissioner, together with the contract of said. Baxter and certain other papers, be empowered to administer oaths to witnesses.

Mr. Hicks gave notice that he should on some future day ask leave to introduce "a bill to establish a ferry across the Mis. sissippi river,"

And then the House adjourned until 7. o'clock, P. M.

SEVEN O'CLOCK, P. M.

Mr. Elmore by leave, presented two petitions of inhabitants. of Millwaukee and Racine counties, praying that authority be granted to certain persons to open a passage for water from lake Muskego to Root river at the north-eastwardly end thereof, Which was referred to the committee on internal improve. ment.

A message from the Council by their Secretary: "Mr. Speaker-I am directed to inform this House that the Council have this day concurred in resolution of this House " "to authorize a committee therein named to administer oaths."' The Council have adopted the report of the committee of con. ference on bill No. 6, A bill to divide the town of Warren, in the county of Milwaukee, and to establish the town of Nemah. bin.

I am also directed to inform this House that the Council have this day passed joint resolutions No. 2, resolutions relative to the present session of the Assembly; in which the concurrence of this House is asked.

Mr. Darling from the committee to which the subject was referred, made the following report which was adopted, to wit:

The committee of conference to which was referred the disa. greeing vote of the two Houses on "a bill to divide the town of Warren, in the county of Milwaukee, and to establish the town of Nemahbin," report:

The committee recommend that in lieu of the first amend. ment the two Houses adopt the following: "strike out the words" West Troy" in the third and fourth lines of the fourth section and insert "Meacham," and strike out the word "East" as inserted by the House of Representatives.

The committee further recommend that the Council recede from their disagreement to the third amendment proposed by the House of Representatives.

All of which is respectfully submitted,

On motion of Mr. Elmore,

Resolutions No. 2, (C. F.) entitled "resolutions relative to the present session of the Assembly," was taken up and read. On motion of Mr. Hamilton,

The House resolved itself into the committee of the whole, House, on the said resolution, Mr. Platt in the chair.

After a short time spent therein, the committee rose and re. ported the resolutions without amendment.

The question was then put on the passage of the resolutions and was determined in the affirmative.

Resolved, That the clerk of this House be instructed to enter the name of Alonzo Platt on the Journal, as protesting against the preamble and resolutions of the two Houses concerning the meeting of the Legislature for the purpose of a special session, Mr, Darling moved that the resolution do lie on the table, which was disagreeed to,

On motion of Mr. Walker, Mr. Platt was excused from voting.
