Mr. Darling, by leave, introduced the undermentioned joint resolution which were read the first and second time, to wit:

No. 29, (II.) "Joint resolutions appointing an agent to present certain claims to the treasury department, and ascertain the territorial indebtedness."

Mr. Bartlett presented the petition of Stephen Field and others, inhabitants of the town of East Troy, praying for the passage of a resolution requesting the delegate in congress to get a post office established at East Troy;

Which was read and laid on the table.

Mr. Thompson moved that so much of the 15th rule of the house as prohibits bills from being introduced without one day's notice being previously given, be supended, to enable him to introduce a bill;

And the question being put thereon,

It passed in the affirmative.

And the ayes and noes having been called for by Mr. Hopkins, Those who voted in the affirmative were,

Messrs. Agry, Bartlett, Birchard, Capron, Crossman, Darling, Grant, Hicks, Hopkins, Hunkins, Masters, Meeker, Palmer, Parsons, Platt, Thompson, Tripp, and Trowbridge-18.

Those who voted in the negative were,

Messrs. Ellis, Elinore, Messersmith, Price, and Walker (speaker)---5.

Thereupon, Mr. Thompson, by leave introduced the following bill, to wit:

No. 52, (H.) "A bill to enable school districts to raise taxes." A message from the governor by Mr. Charles Doty, his private secretary:

"Mr. Speaker: I am directed to deliver to the house of representative a message from the governor in writing."

The speaker laid the said message of the governor before the house, notifying it that he did, on the 27th inst., approve and deposite in the office of the secretary of the territory:

"An act to change the name of the town of Nemahbin, in the county of Milwaukee."

Mr. Elinore objected to the introduction of the said bill No. 52, (II.)

Mr. Platt called for the previous question;

And the question being put,

It passed in the affirmative.

And the ayes and noes having been called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative were,

Messrs. Agry, Bartlett, Birchard, Capron, Crossman, Durling, Grant, Hicks, Hopkins, Hunkins, Masters, Messersmith, Mecker, Olin, Palmer, Parsons, Platt, Thompson, Tripp, Trowbridge, and Walker (speaker)-22.

The main question was then put: "Shall the bill be rejected.”” And passed in the negative.

The said bill was then read the first and second times.

Mr. Crossman, from the committee on engrossed bills, reported the following to be correctly engrossed, to wit:

No. 46, (II.) “A bill to punish trespass on lands;"

No. 50, (H.) "A bill relating to commissioners of highways." Mr. Bartlett, by leave, introduced the following preamble and resolution, which was read and adopted, to wit:

"Whereas, the town of East Troy, in Walworth county, contaius more than six hundred inlrabitants, being the most populous town between Milwaukee and Janesville, and is nearly equi distant from those two places; and

Whereas, there is in said town a flourishing village, through which the mail from Milwaukee to Janesville and Madison is carried in stages which daily stop in said village to exchange horses; and

Whereas, the wants and wishes of the people of that town urgently demand the establishment of a post office therein, which would be not only highly beneficial to the citizens of said towu, but, it is believed, would be for the interest of the post office department itself; therefore,

Resolved, That the hon. Henry Dodge, delegate in congress from this territory, be respectfully requested to use his influence and exertions to procure the early establishment of a post office in said town of East Troy."

Mr. Long, from the committee on enrolled bills, reported the following to be correctly enrolled, which were signed by the speaker, to wit:

No. 50, (C.) "A bill to change the name of Cyrus Manchester Hussey Burgess to Cyrus Manchester Hussey Lay;"

No. 54, (C.) "A bill to change the name of Cordelia Elvira Hood to Cordelia Elvira Burris, and to provide that said Cordelia shall be the adopted child and legal heir of Martin V. Burris;"

No. 55, (C) “A bill to amend an act to incorporate the trus tees of the Pririeville Academy;"

No. 67, (C.) "A bill to legalize the official acts of Rollin Blount."

Mr. Long, from the same committee, made the following report: The committee on enrolment report, that they did, on this day, present to the governor for his approval:

"An act to incorporate the village of Geneva;"

"An act relating to the district courts in the second and third judicial districts, and for other purposes;"

"An act to authorize school district No. 1, in Dane county, to levy an additional tax for building a school house;"

"An act to authorize the construction of certain dams therein named;

"An act for the relief of the county of Calumet;"

"An act to repeal the several acts appointing a treasurer and auditor, and for other purposes;"

"An act to provide for the election of clerks of the boards of supervisors, and for other purposes;"

"An act to enable the county of Winnebago to obtain certain records from the counties of Brown and Fond du Lac."

Bills on their passage being announced,

No. 46, (H.) "A bill to punish trespass on lands,"

Was read the third time, when

Mr. Platt moved the indefinite postponement of the bill;

And the question being put thereon,

It passed in the negative.

And the ayes and noes having been called for by Mr. Darling,

Those who voted in the affirmative were,

Messrs. Darling, Ellis, Hunkins, Olin, Platt, Price, and Trowbridge--7.

Those who voted in the negative were,

Messrs. Agry, Bartlett, Capron, Crossman, Elmore, Grant, Hicks, Hopkins, Masters, Messersmith, Meeker, Palmer, Parsons, Thompson, and Walker (speaker)-15.

The said bill was then passed, ane the title thereof agreed to. No. 50, (H.) "A bill relating to commissioners of highways,"

Was read the third time, when

Mr. Ellis asked the unanimous consent of the house to amend

the bill;

And objection being made,

Mr. Ellis moved to re-commit the bill to the committee of the whole house;

And the question being put,

It passed in the negative.

And the ayes and noes having been called for by Mr. Ellis, Those who voted in the affirmative were,

Messrs. Darling, Ellis, Grant, Hicks, Hopkins, Palmer, and Walker (speaker)-7.

Those who voted in the negative were,

No. 64, (C.) "A bill relating to certain county officers in St. Croix county,"

Was read the third time, when

Mr. Price moved to lay the bill on the table;

The question was then put on the passage of the bill,

And passed in the affirmative.

And the ayes and noes having been called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative were,

Messrs. Agry, Bartlett, Birchard, Capron, Crossman, Darling,

The title was then agreed to.

Mr. Parsons moved that bill No. 37, (C.) "A bill to amend an act concerning proceedings in courts of record, and for other pur'poses," be taken up,

Which was agreed to.

And the question being put on the passage of the bill,

It passed in the affirmative.

And the ayes and noes having been called for by Mr. Hicks, Those who voted in the affirmative were,

Messrs. Agry, Bartlett, Birchard, Capron, Crossman, Elmore, Grant, Hopkins, Hunkins, Long, Masters, Olin, Parsons, Thompson, Tripp, and Trowbridge-16.

Those who voted in the negative were,

Messrs. Darling, Eilis, Hicks, Messersmith, Meeker, Platt, Price, and Walker (speaker)-8.

The title to the said bill was then agreed to.

A message from the council by their secretary, to wit: "Mr. Speaker: The council have passed the following, in which I am directed to ask the concurrence of this house: No. 68, (C.) A bill relating to territorial roads."

And have concurred in resolution

No. 28, (H.) Resolution prohibiting the introduction of new bills;'

And have passed the following bills and memorials of this house:

No. 36, A bill to authorize James Campbell and Thomas Stewart to build and maintain a dam on Sugar river;'

No.51, 'A bill to enable the county of Portage to procure certain records from the county of Brown;'

No. 7, 'Memorial to the congress of the United States, relative to a United States road from Prairie du Chien to La Pointe, on Lake Superior;"
