Mr. Cornwell offered the following resolution, which was unanimously adopted:

SENATE RESOLUTION No. 4.

Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate provide a sufficient number of the latest edition of the Revised Statues for the use of the Senators, President of the Senate, elective officers and Senate committees.

The President announced the following temporary appointments: Pages D. J. Ryan, John McDonald, Chas .B. Morgan, Gerald Ginnaven, John Flannigan, Robert Dineen, Walden Graham, Joseph Segen, James B. Livingston, Lawrence O'Connor, Herbert Klatz.

Stenographers-Misses: Ida Stage, J. Gleesen, Charlotte K. Herlihy, Miss Grace Underwood, Miss Loesch, Marie Carmon, Harry E. Richardson, Katheryn DeVare.

Mr. Curtis introduced a bill, Senate Bill No. 1, for "An Act making an appropriation for the payment of claims arising from loss on account of the slaughter of animals having the hoof and mouth disease,"

Which, by unanimous consent, was read at large a first time, ordered printed and to second reading without reference.

At 2:30 p. m., on motion of Mr. Canaday, the Senate adjourned and the President of the Senate announced that the Senate stood adjourned until Saturday, January 9, at 10:00 o'clock a. m.

Senate met pursuant to adjournment,

Prayer by Chaplain.

The President of the Senate announced that he had examined the Journal of Wednesday, January 6, 1915, and Thursday, January 7, 1915, and found no corrections or changes to be made, and if the Senate had no changes or corrections to offer, the Journal would be ordered to stand approved. No corrections being offered, the Journal was ordered to stand approved.

At 10:10 o'clock a. m., the Senate, on motion of Mr. Franklin, adjourned until Tuesday, January 12, at 8:00 o'clock p. m.

The reading of the Journal was dispensed with and it was ordered to stand approved.

Mr. Keller called up Senate Resolution No. 3 for consideration. Mr. Hull offered the following amendment No. 1 to said resolution, viz:

Amend resolution offered by Mr. Keller Thursday, January 7, as follows: Insert in the resolution after the word "Members" where it first appeared, the following: "Nine of said members to be Democrats, to be selected by the Democratic membership of the Senate, and eight of said members to be Republicans, to be selected by the Republican membership of the Senate."

Senator Canaday explained that the Democrats in caucus had agreed to this arrangement and he read the names of the eight Republican members of a committee proposed by the Republican caucus, and which the Democrats had agreed to support.

Mr. Keller then moved to adjourn, and the motion prevailed.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 13, 1915, 10:00 O'CLOCK A. M.

Senate met pursuant to adjournment,

Hon. Barratt O'Hara, Lieutenant Governor and President of the Senate, presiding.

Prayer by the Chaplain.

Objections being made by Mr. Barr, the approval of the Journal of yesterday went over to the next legislative day.

Mr. Keller called up Senate Resolution No. 3, as follows:

Be it resolved, By the Senate of the State of Illinois that an election committee to consist of seventeen (17) members be and the same is hereby created under the rules of this body, before which committee shall come all proper matters in regular order.

That said committee shall have full power to appoint sub-committees, to subpoena and compel the attendance of witnesses, administer oaths, issue subpœnaes duces tecum, to employ such assistants as in its discretion may appear necessary in any and all cases and to do any and all further acts that may be necessary to carry out the objects for which this committee is formed.

And that the expenses of the said committee and its assistants shall be paid by the appropriation which shall be made therefor, upon voucher approved by the chairman of said committee, and the Chairman of the Committee on Contingent Expenses, and finally approved by the LieutenantGovernor.

Thereupon Mr. Keller offered the following Amendment No. 2 to Senate Resolution No. 3:

AMENDMENT No. 2.

And, be it further resolved, That the President of the Senate be authorized and empowered to appoint the members of this said election committee. Mr. Canaday moved the previous question, roll call being demanded disclosed that the previous question was ordered: Yeas, 25; nays, 23. The following voted in the affirmative: MessFS.

The vote then recurring on the resolution as amended and the roll call being demanded, disclosed the adoption of the resolution as amended: Yeas, 25; nays, 22.

Upon motion of Mr. Cleary, Mrs. Robert Wiles and Mrs. E. R. Blake were invited to address the Senate. Mrs. Wiles responded and requested that action be taken by the Senate to assist in restoring to historical societies in New Orleans a banner now in possession of the State.

Mr. Canaday moved that a recess be taken until 1:30 p. m. Roll call being demanded disclosed the motion carried and recess was taken until 1:30 p. m.: Yeas, 25; nays, 22.

Under the power vested in the President of the Senate under Senate Resolution No. 3, adopted by the Senate he announced that the following were appointed as the permanent Elections Committee:
