3 Ye chosen seed of Israel's race,

A remnant weak and small;
Hail him who saves you by his grace,
And crown him Lord of all.

4 Ye Gentile sinners ne'er forget,
The wormwood and the gall;
Go spread your trophies at his feet,
And crown him Lord of all.

5 Let every kindred, every tribe,
On this terrestrial ball;
To him all majesty ascribe,
And crown him Lord of all.

6 Oh that with yonder sacred throng,
We at his feet may fall;
There join the everlasting song,
And crown him Lord of all.

[blocks in formation]

1 WHEN the heart is sad within,
Burden'd with the weight of sin;
When the spirit sinks with fear,
Jesus, Son of David, hear!

7s.

2 Thou the shame, the grief, hast known, Though the sins were not Thine own, Thou wert pleas'd their load to bear, Jesus, Son of David, hear!

3 When our heads are bow'd with woe,
When our bitter tears o'erflow,
When we mourn a brother dear,
Jesus, Son of David, hear!

4 Thou our throbbing flesh hast worn,
Thou our mortal griefs hast borne,
Thou hast shed the friendly tear,
Jesus, Son of David, hear!

5 When our dying hour shall come,
And the Lord shall call us home,
When our final doom is near,
Jesus, Son of David, hear!

6 Thou hast pass'd thro' death's dark shade,
Thou hast full atonement made,
Thou to God's right hand art near,
Jesus, Son of David, hear!

LORD'S DAY.

L. M.

1 ANOTHER six days' work is done,
Another sabbath is begun :

Return, my soul, enjoy thy rest,
Improve the day thy God hath bless'd.

2 Oh that our thoughts and thanks may rise As grateful incense to the skies;

And draw from heaven that sweet repose,
Which only he who feels it knows.

3 This heav'nly calm within the breast
Is the dear pledge of glorious rest,
Which for the Church of God remains,
The end of cares, of griefs, and pains.

4 In holy duties let the day,

In holy pleasures pass away;

How sweet! a sabbath thus to spend, In hope of one that ne'er shall end!

1 LORD, when we bend before thy throne, And our confessions pour,

Teach us to feel the sins we own,
And shun what we deplore.

2 Our contrite spirits pitying see,
True penitence impart ;

And let a healing ray from Thee
Beam hope upon our heart.

3 When our responsive tongues essay
Their grateful songs to raise,

Grant that our souls may join the lay,
And rise to Thee in praise.

4 When we disclose our wants in prayer, May we our wills resign;

And not a thought, our bosom share,
Which is not wholly Thine.

5 Let faith each meek petition fill, And waft it to the skies;

And teach our hearts 'tis goodness still, That grants it or denies.

12.

L. M.

1 MAY He, by whose kind care we meet,
Send his good Spirit from above,
Make our communications sweet,
And cause our hearts to burn with love.

2 If unto us by grace 'tis giv'n,

To know the Saviour's precious name;
Our souls, 'ere long, shall meet in heav'n,
Our hope, our way, our end the same.

3 Oh may we then, for His name's sake,
Out of His fullness all receive;
And in communion now partake
The joys which only He can give.

4 Forgotten be each worldly theme,

When Christians meet together thus;
Fix'd be our thoughts and hearts on Him,
Who liv'd, and died, and reigns, for us.

5 O Father! One with Christ thy Son,
As thou in Him, and He in Thee,
So by thy Spirit, make us one,
In time and in eternity.

LITANY.

P. M.

1 LORD of mercy and of might! Of mankind the life and light! Maker, Teacher infinite!

Jesus, hear and save!

2 Who, when sin's tremendous doom Gave creation to the tomb,

Didst not scorn the Virgin's womb,

Jesus, hear and save!

3 Strong Creator! Saviour mild! Humbled to a mortal child, Captive, beaten, bound, revil'd,

Jesus, hear and save!

4 Thron'd above celestial things,
Born aloft on angels' wings,
Lord of lords, and King of kings!
Jesus, hear and save!

5 Soon to come to earth again, Judge of angels, and of men, Hear us now, and hear us then,

Jesus, hear and save!

Where Afric's sunny fountains
Roll down their golden sand;
