While I concealed my guilt,
I felt the festering wound,
Till I confessed my sins to Thee,
And ready pardon found.

Let sinners learn to pray,

Let saints keep near the throne;
Our help, in times of deep distress,
Is found in God alone.

177. CHRIST'S ASCENSION. Ps. xlvii. C. M.

1 O FOR a shout of sacred joy,
To God the sovereign King!
Let every land their tongues employ,
And hymns of triumph sing.

2 Jesus our God ascends on high;
His heavenly guards, around,
Attend Him rising through the sky
With trumpet's joyful sound.

3 While angels shout and praise their King,
Let mortals learn their strains:
Let all the earth His honours sing:
O'er all the earth He reigns.

4 In ISRAEL stood His ancient throne,
He loved that chosen race;

But now He calls the world His own,
And HEATHENS taste His grace.

WORSHIP. Ps. xlviii.

S. M.

1 GREAT is the Lord our God,
And let His praise be great;
He makes His churches His abode,
His most delightful seat.

2

These temples of His grace,
How beautiful they stand!
The honours of our native place,

And bulwarks of our land.

3 In every new distress

We'll to His house repair; We'll think upon His wondrous grace,

And seek deliverance there.

4

The God we worship now,

Will guide us till we die;

Will be our God while here below,
And ours above the sky.

CONFESSION. Ps. li.

L. M.

1 LORD I am vile, conceived in sin;
And born unholy and unclean;

Sprung from the man, whose guilty fall
Corrupts the race, and taints us all.

2 Soon as we draw our infant breath,
The seeds of sin grow up for death;
Thy law demands a perfect heart;
But we're defiled in every part.

3 Great God! create my heart anew,
And form my spirit pure and true :
O make me wise betimes, to spy
My danger and my remedy.

4 Behold I fall before Thy face;
My only refuge is Thy grace:
No outward forms can make me clean;
The leprosy lies deep within.

5 Jesus, my God, Thy blood alone
Hath power sufficient to atone :

Thy blood can make me white as snow:
No other thing can cleanse me so.

60 let me hear Thy pardoning voice, And make my troubled soul rejoice! Then all my powers shall join to bless The Lord,my strength and righteousness.

REIGN OF CHRIST. Ps. lxxii. L. M.

1 JESUS shall reign, where'er the sun
Does his successive journies run;
His kingdom stretch from shore to shore,
Till moons shall wax and wane no more.

2 To Him shall endless prayer be made, And princes throng to crown His head; His name, like sweet perfume, shall rise With every morning sacrifice.

3 People and realms of every tongue
Dwell on His love with sweetest song;
And infant voices shall proclaim
Their early blessings on His name.

4 Blessings abound where'er He reigns: The prisoner leaps to lose his chains; The weary find eternal rest,

And all the sons of want are blest.

5 Where He displays His healing power,
Death and the curse are known no more;
In Him the tribes of Adam boast
More blessings than their Father lost.

6 Let every creature rise and bring
Peculiar honours to our King:
Angels descend with songs again,
And earth repeat the loud Amen.

181.

WORSHIP. Ps. lxxxiv.

148th.

1 LORD of the worlds above,
How pleasant and how fair
The dwellings of Thy love,
Thy earthly temples are!
To Thine abode my heart aspires,
With warm desires to see my God.

2

O happy souls that pray,
Where God appoints to hear!

O happy men that pay

Their constant service there!
They praise Thee still; and happy they
That love the way to Zion's hill.

3 They go from strength to strength Through this dark vale of tears, Till each arrives at length,

4

. Till each in heaven appears:
O glorious seat, when God our King
Shall thither bring our willing feet!

God is our sun and shield,
Our light and our defence;
With gifts His hands are filled,
We draw our blessings thence;
He shall bestow on Jacob's race
Peculiar grace and glory too.

182.

Ps. lxxxix.

C. M.

1 BLEST are the souls that hear and know
The Gospel's joyful sound;
Peace shall attend the path they go,
And light their steps surround.

2 Their joy shall bear their spirits up,
Through their Redeemer's name;
His righteousness exalts their hope,
Nor Satan dares condemn.
