Stephen, when suffering Martyrdom.

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.— Ps. cxvi. 15.

ACTS vii. 54.

When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth. But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, and cast him out of the city, and stoned him and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul. And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying,

And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice,

PRAYER.

ORD, lay not this sin to their charge.

And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

The Souls of the Martyrs.

My soul, wait thou only upon God;-for my expectation is from him.-Ps. lxii. 5.

REV. vi. 9.

When he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: and they cried with a loud voice, saying,

[OW long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

ANSWER-v. 11.

And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow-servants also, and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

PROMISE-LUKE xviii. 7, 8.

Shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily.

The Four and Twenty Elders.

His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.Dan. vii. 14.

REV. xi. 16.

The four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God, saying,

E give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which

art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned. And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

v. 19.

And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.

PROMISE-2 PET. iii. 13.

We, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

A Prayer for Christ's Coming Quickly.

Hath he said, and shall he not do it?-or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?-Num. xxiii. 19.

REV. xxii. 20.

He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly.

PRAYER.

AMEN. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

1 THESS. iii. 11, 13.

Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you. And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you to the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

1 THESS. V. 23, 24.

The very God of peace sanctify you wholly and I pray God your whole spirit, and soul, and body, be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

2 THESS. i. 11, 12.

We pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good
