AT THEIR REGULAR SESSION, BEGUN AND HELD AT SPRINGFIELD, JANUARY 7, 1861. SPRINGFIELD: 1861. JOURNAL OF THE SENATE. At a General Assembly of the State of Illinois, begun and held in the city of Springfield, on Monday, the 7th day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-one, being the first session of the twenty-second General Assembly, the members of the Senate met in the Senate Chamber at 11:15 A. M. Mr. John H. Adams, of Stephenson county, said: "Gentlemen of the Senate, owing to the death of Gov. Bissell, the Lieutenant Governor having become Governor, it now becomes necessary for the Senate to choose a Chairman; therefore, according to custom, I nominate Mr. Kuykendall, he being the oldest member, for temporary Chairman." The motion was carried unanimously. Mr. Kuykendall thereupon took the chair. On motion of Mr. Pickett, Mr. Campbell W. Waite was elected as Secretary pro tem. of the Senate. On motion of Mr. Dummer, Mr. Richard F. Gill was elected as Sergeant-at-arms pro tem. of the Senate. On motion of Mr. Addams of Stephenson, The Secretary was instructed to call the roll of members holding over; which he did, and the following gentlemen answered to their names and took their seats: Messrs. Adams of Lee, Addams of Stephenson, Applington, Bestor, Blodgett, Brooks, Higbee, Knapp, Kuykendall, Marshall. The Secretary was then instructed to call the list of members elect; which he did, and the following gentlemen answered to their names, and, by request of the Chairman, came forward, presented their certificates, took the oath prescribed by the constitution of Illinois and took their seats: Messrs. Berry, Bushnell, Casey, Dummer, Jayne, Mack, Ogden, Oglesby, Pickett, Rodgers, Underwood, Gregg. On motion of Mr. Applington, The roll of members was now called, and the following gentlemen answered: Messrs. Adams of Lee, Addams of Stephenson, Applington, Bestor, Berry, Blodgett, Brooks, Buckmaster, Bushnell, Casey, Dummer, Gregg, Higbee, Jayne, Knapp, Kuykendall, Marshall, Mack, Ogden, Oglesby, Pickett, Rodgers, Underwood. 201869 |
