DAILY PRAYER,

FOR THE USE OF

GRAMMAR SCHOOLS.

BIBLI

LONDON:

GEORGE BELL, 186 FLEET-STREET;

M.DCCC.LIV.

138.0.54.

THE following Form is issued in the hope that its use may encourage a devotional spirit in the Scholars, by enabling them to take their part in the School Prayers.

The bulk of the matter has been selected from "Prayers for Schools," by the Rev. Thomas Bowdler; but great liberties have been taken both with the expressions and arrangement, to render them more suitable for the present purpose.

Κύριε, δίδαξον ἡμᾶς προσεύχεσθαι.

Div. Luc. XI. 1.

SUNDAY MORNING.

Great is the Lord, and highly to be praised; in the city of our God, even upon his holy hill.

Lord, I have loved the habitation of thy house; and the place where thy honour dwelleth.

Thou that hearest the prayer; unto Thee shall all flesh come.

For all the world shall worship Thee; sing of Thee, and praise thy name.

Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints sing with joyfulness.

Let the righteous be glad and rejoice before God: let them also be merry and joyful.

Glory and worship are before Him: power and honour are in his sanctuary.

We will go into his tabernacle; and fall low on our knees before his footstool.

All. We wait for thy loving kindness, O God; in the midst of thy temple.

Let us pray.

O Thou, who art greatly to be feared in the assembly of thy saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are round about Thee; prepare our hearts, we beseech Thee, to worship Thee in spirit and in truth, with all lowliness and meekness, with love and holy fear. Write thy word on our hearts, that we may keep and do it; and do Thou, the God of all grace, cause thy power to rest upon thy sanctuary; and be with us, by Thy Holy Spirit, to bless us with all spiritual blessings in Christ Jesus, that we may thank Thee and praise Thee our God, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, now and for ever. Amen.

O Lord, we beseech Thee to keep thy household the Church in continual godliness; that through thy protection it may be free from all adversities, and devoutly given to serve Thee in good works, to the glory of Thy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We pray for all who are sick or afflicted, (especially); that Thou wouldest send them a happy deliverance out of all their troubles. Amen.

For our dear relations, friends, and neighbours; that thou wouldest grant them all such good things as Thou shalt see expedient for them. Amen.

For those who desire our prayers, those who have none to pray for them, and those who never pray for themselves. Amen.

And as we pray for those who are yet strangers and pilgrims upon earth, let us give high praise and thanks for all thy saints, which from the beginning have departed in thy faith and fear; beseeching Thee to give us grace so to follow their good examples, that we with them may be received into thy eternal and glorious kingdom, through Jesus Christ, our only Lord and Saviour. Amen.

Our Father, &c.

Blessed be the Lord for evermore. Amen and Amen.

SUNDAY EVENING.

O how amiable are thy dwellings; thou Lord of hosts!

For one day in thy courts is better than a thousand.

Thus saith the Lord, Unto them that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please Me, and take hold of my covenant;

Even unto them will I give in mine house, and within my walls, a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off.

Also the sons of the stranger that join themselves to the Lord, to serve Him, and to love the name
