Let the proud be confounded, for they go wickedly about to destroy me but I will be occupied in Thy commandments.

Let fuch as fear Thee, and

have known Thy teftimonies: be turned unto me.

O let my heart be found in Thy ftatutes: that I be not ashamed. Glory be, &c.

Antiphon.-GoD is Love, and he that dwelleth in Love dwelleth in GOD, and GoD in him.

LORD, have mercy upon us.

Turn away mine eyes left they behold vanity :
And quicken Thou me in Thy way.
Turn us again, Thou GoD of hosts:

Shew the light of Thy countenance, and we
fhall be whole.

The heathen shall fear Thy name, O LORD: And all the kings of the earth Thy Majesty. O pray for the peace of Jerufalem :

They fhall profper that love thee.

Peace be within thy walls :

And plenteousness within thy palaces.

Almighty God, who as about this hour didft inftruct and replenish the hearts of Thy faithful servants by fending upon them the light of Thy

HOLY SPIRIT; grant us by the fame Spirit to have a right judgment in all things, that we may both perceive and know what things we ought to do, and also may have grace and power faithfully to perform the fame; through the merits of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, who was alfo at this hour contented to receive the bitter fentence of death for us, and now liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the fame bleffed Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

Almighty God, the fountain of all goodnefs, and the well-spring of all divine graces, who hast vouchfafed to regenerate us, being born in fin, by Water and the HOLY GHOST, in the bleffed laver of Baptifm, thereby receiving us into the number of Thy children, and making us heirs of everlasting life in the communion of Thy glorious faints. Strengthen us, O LORD, with that bleffed SPIRIT of Thine, the Ghoftly Comforter, and daily increase in us Thy manifold gifts of grace, the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, the Spirit of Counsel and Ghoftly Strength, the Spirit of Knowledge and true Godliness, and fulfil us, O LORD, with the Spirit of Thy holy Fear, even through Him who fent down the SPIRIT upon His Church, JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

The Sixth Hour.

(12 o'clock. Noon.)

O Thou, Who at the fixth hour didft nail the fins of the world to the fame Crofs with Thyfelf: Blot out the handwriting of our offences that is against us; and save us.

O Saviour of the world, Who by Thy Cross and precious Blood haft redeemed us :

Save us and help us, we humbly beseech Thee, O LORD.

Our FATHER, &c.

O GOD, make speed to fave us :
O LORD, make hafte to help us.
Glory be to the FATHER, &c.

HYMN.

Rector potens, verax Deus.
O God of truth, O LORD of might,
Who orderest time and change aright,
And fend'st the early morning ray,
And light'ft the glow of perfect day:

Extinguish Thou each finful fire,
And banish every ill defire :

And, while Thou keep'ft the body whole,
Shed forth Thy peace upon the foul.

O FATHER, that we afk be done,
Through JESUS CHRIST, Thine only Son;
Who, with the HOLY GHOST and Thee,

PSALM 119 (v. 81). Defecit anima mea.

My foul hath longed for | Thy falvation: and I have a good hope because of Thy word.

Mine eyes long fore for Thy word: faying, O when wilt Thou comfort me?

For I am become like a bottle in the smoke: yet do I not forget Thy statutes.

How many are the days of Thy fervant: when wilt Thou be avenged of them that perfecute me?

The proud have digged pits

for me: which are not after Thy law.

All Thy commandments are true: they perfecute me falfely; O be Thou my help.

They had almost made an end of me upon earth: but I forfook not Thy commandments.

O quicken me after Thy and fo loving-kindness : fhall I keep the teftimonies of Thy mouth. Glory be, &c.

In æternum, Domine.

O LORD, Thy word: en- | commandments: for with dureth for ever in heaven.

Thy truth also remaineth from one generation to another: Thou haft laid the foundation of the earth, and it abideth.

They continue this day according to Thine ordinance: for all Things ferve Thee. If my delight had not been in Thy law: I fhould have perished in my trouble. I will never forget Thy

them Thou haft quickened

me.

I am Thine, O fave me: for I have fought Thy commandments.

The ungodly laid wait for me to destroy me: but I will confider Thy testimonies.

I fee that all things come to an end: but Thy commandment is exceeding

broad.

Quomodo dilexi!

LORD, what love have I unto Thy law: all the day long is my study in it.

Thou, through Thy commandments, haft made me wifer than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than my teachers: for Thy teftimonies are my study.

from every evil way: that I may keep Thy word.

I have not fhrunk from Thy judgments: for Thou teachest me.

O how sweet are Thy words unto my throat: yea, sweeter than honey unto my mouth!

Through Thy commandments I get understanding:

I am wiser than the aged: because I keep Thy com- therefore I hate all evil mandments.

I have refrained my feet

ways.

Glory be, &c.

Lucerna pedibus meis.

Thy word is a lantern unto | hand: yet do I not forget

my feet: and a light unto my paths.

Thy law.

The ungodly have laid a fnare for me: am but yet fwerved not from Thy com

I have fworn and ftead faftly purposed: to keep Thy righteous judgments.

I am troubled above meafure: quicken me, O LORD, according to Thy word.

Let the free-will offerings of my mouth please Thee, O LORD: and teach me Thy judgments.

My foul is alway in my

mandments.

Thy teftimonies have I claimed as mine heritage for ever: and why? they are the very joy of my heart.

I have applied my heart to fulfil Thy ftatutes alway: even unto the end. Glory be, &c.

Iniquos odio

I hate them that imagine evil things: but Thy law do I love.

Thou art my defence and fhield: and my trust is in Thy word.
