Entercessions and Supplications.

For the Bishops and Clergy.

[ocr errors]

Moft merciful FATHER, we beseech Thee to fend down upon Thy fervants, the Bishops and Pastors of Thy flock, Thy heavenly bleffing, and especially upon the Bishop of this diocese, and the Clergy of the parish under whose charge Thou haft placed me; and so endue them with Thy HOLY SPIRIT, that Thy word spoken by their mouths may have fuch fuccefs, that it may never be spoken in vain. Grant that they may not only be earnest to reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-fuffering and doctrine, but may also be examples of the believers " in word, in converfation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity;" that, fulfilling their courfe, they may at the laft day receive the crown of righteousness laid up by the LORD, the righteous Judge. Grant this, O FATHER, for the fake of JESUS CHRIST, our only LORD and SAVIOUR. Amen.

For a Church and Parish.

O Almighty and everlafting GOD, Who didft give to Thy holy Apoftle (or Evangelift) St. grace truly to believe and to preach Thy Word; grant, we beseech Thee, that in this Church, which is called by his name, many may be led to love that Word which he believed, and that here it may ever be faithfully preached and

meekly received by us and all Thy people, to the glory of Thy great Name.

We pray Thee, bleffed Jesus, that Thou wouldeft give us grace to follow Thee as did Thy holy Apostle (or Evangelift) St. ; and grant that we alfo, being called by Thy holy Word, may forthwith give up ourselves obediently to fulfil Thy holy commandments. HOLY JESU, hear all our prayers for this Church and flock, and for those our brethren [especially] who unite with us in prayer to Thee, Who now livest and reigneft with the FATHER and the HOLY GHOST, ever one God, world without end.

Amen.

(To be ufed very often.)

O Holy SAVIOUR, Who faveft all them that come unto Thee, have mercy upon all thofe who are called by Thy Name, but who are now wandering far from Thee, in the ways of error and deftruction; grant them the gift of true Repentance and hearty Faith, that they may feek Thee, and find Thee, and having found Thee may never go away from Thee, but ever rejoice with that joy which no man can take away, and love Thee with that Love which is fhed abroad in our hearts by the HOLY GHOST, and that so perfevering unto the end they may attain eternal life.
