AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO A PUBLIC SEAL.

Be it ordained by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Water

bury:

The seal heretofore adopted by the Court of Common Council of the City of Waterbury shall be and remain the seal of the city.

AN ORDINANCE RELATING TO SEWAGE.

Be it ordained by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Water

bury:

SECTION I. From and after the first day of June, 1896, no person shall suffer or permt any sewer or drain to empty or discharge its contents into Great or Little Brook, or into any stream, channel or water course within said city. No person shall thereafter empty any sewage or other offensive or deleterious matter, or suffer or permit the same to be emptied into Great Brook, or Little Brook, or into any stream, channel or water course within this city, and any person violating the provisions of this section shall forfeit and pay a penalty of not less than twenty-five dollars nor more than one hundred dollars.

Be it ordained by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Waterbury:

SECTION I. No person shall conduct any sewer under ground, or suffer the same to be conducted, from premises belonging to him, or under his control, into any street where there is a public sewer, without having the same properly connected with such public sewer. Every person offending against any of the provisions of this section shall forfeit and pay a penalty of not more than one hundred dollars.

SEC. 2. It shall be the duty of the owner or owners of the premises to which any drain connected with any public sewer shall be attached, to employ a person, duly licensed, in making the necessary opening into such public sewer and to conform to the directions of the Board of Public Works in regard to the manner in which said opening shall be made and said drain made and laid, and to keep said drain at all times in good repair. The Superintendent of Sewers shall have power, and it shall be his duty, under the direction of the Board of Public Works, to discontinue, stop up, and prevent from discharging into any public sewer any private sewer or drain aforesaid which is not laid or kept in repair to his satisfaction. Every person who shall open, or caused to be opened, any drain or private sewer which shall have been stopped up or discon

tinued as aforesaid, or who shall violate any other provision of this section, shall forfeit and pay a penalty of not more than one hundred dollars for every such offense.

SEC. 3. No offal or garbage, dead animals, or any animal or vegetable substance or any dirty water or anything likely to retain therein or create a stench therefrom, or obstructions of any kind whatever, shall be placed, thrown or deposited in any receiving basin or sewer; and any person so offending or causing any such obstruction or substance to be placed so as to be carried into such receiving basin or sewer, shall forfeit and pay not exceeding ten dollars for each offense; and any person who shall injure, break or remove any portion of any receiving basin, covering flag, manhole, vent, or any part of any sewer drain, or who shall obstruct the mouth of any sewer drain, or obstruct the flow of water in any sewer, drain or water course in the City of Waterbury, shall forfeit and pay not exceeding twenty-five dollars for each and every such offense.

Be it ordained by the Board of Aldermen of the City of Water

bury:

SECTION I. The Board of Public Health having adjudged that the deposit of sputum in public places is a nuisance, a source of filth, and cause of sickness, it is hereby ordered that spitting upon the floor, platform, or steps of any railroad, or railway station, car, public building, hall, church, theater, or market, be and is hereby prohibited; also on any public walk on which spitting shall be prohibited by order of the Board of Public Health and a proper notice to that effect posted, and all officers in charge or control of such buildings, cars, or public places, shall keep posted permanently a sufficient number of notices forbidding spitting upon the floors and walks, and the janitors of public buildings, conductors of cars, or officers on duty in public places shall see that this ordinance is enforced.

SEC. 2. The violation of any provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed a misdemeanor and punished by fine not exceeding ten dollars.
