A Prayer for Penitents.

Abridged from Constit. Apost. lib. viii. c. 9.

ALMIGHTY and Eternal God, who desirest

not the death of a sinner, but rather that he should turn from his evil way and live; look graciously upon us Thy servants, who here bow down before Thee in humiliation and repentance. Thou, Who didst accept the repentance of the Ninevites, when they turned to Thee; Who wouldest have all men to be saved, and come to the knowledge of Thy truth;-Thou, Who didst receive with a fatherly compassion, Thy prodigal son, though he had spent all his substance in riotous living, seeing that at last he was sorry for his sin, and arose and went to his father;-receive in like manner, we most humbly beseech Thee, the supplications of us, who now turn unto Thee. For we have gone astray, and done very wickedly; and if Thou, Lord, shouldest be extreme to mark what is done amiss, we cannot abide it. But there is mercy with Thee. Extend it, therefore, we earnestly pray, to us Thy servants, and restore us to Thy grace and favour, for Jesus Christ His sake. Amen.

O

UR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil For Thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

O Lord, open Thou our lips,

And our mouth shall shew forth Thy praise. O God, make speed to save us.

O Lord, make haste to help us.

:

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now,

shall be

world without end. Amen.

Praise

ye the Lord.

The Lord's Name be praised.

SUNDAY EVENING.

PURITY.

BUT as He which hath called you is holy, so

be ye holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. 1 Peter i. 15, 16.

HYMN.

Glory to Thee, my GOD, this night,
For all the blessings of the light;
Keep me, O keep me, King of kings,
Beneath Thine own Almighty wings!

Forgive me, Lord, for Thy dear Son,
The ill that I this day have done;
That with the world, myself, and Thee,
I, ere I sleep, at peace may be.

Teach me to live, that I may dread
The grave as little as my bed;
Teach me to die, that so I may
Rise glorious at the awful day.

O let my soul on Thee repose,
And may sweet sleep mine eyelids close;
Sleep, that shall me more vig'rous make,
To serve my GOD when I awake.

If in the night I sleepless lie,

My soul with heavenly thoughts supply;
Let no ill dreams disturb my rest,

No

powers of darkness me molest.

The Lesson.-2 Cor. vi. 14.—vii. 1.

BE ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Psalm cxix.

BLESSED are those that are undefiled in the

way and walk in the law of the Lord.

:

Blessed are they that keep His testimonies and seek Him with their whole heart.

For they who do no wickedness walk in His

ways.

Thou hast charged that we shall diligently keep Thy commandments.

O that my ways were made so direct that I might keep Thy statutes!

So shall I not be confounded while I have respect unto all Thy commandments.

I will thank Thee with an unfeigned heart : when I shall have learned the judgments of Thy righteousness.

I will keep Thy ceremonies: O forsake me not utterly.

With my whole heart have I sought Thee: O let me not go wrong out of Thy commandments. Thy words have I hid within my heart that I should not sin against Thee.

Blessed art Thou, O Lord: O teach me Thy

statutes.

With my lips have I been telling of all the judgments of Thy mouth.

I have had as great delight in the way of Thy testimonies as in all manner of riches.

I will talk of Thy commandments respect unto Thy ways.

My delight shall be in Thy statutes and I will not forget Thy word.

Do well unto thy servant : that I may live, and keep Thy word.

Open Thou mine eyes that I may see the wondrous things of Thy law.

I am a stranger upon earth: O hide not Thy commandments from me.
