Which was read; and Messrs. Kelly, Lorimer, and Carter appointed a committee on the part of the Senate.

On motion, the Senate adjourned until to-morrow 10 o'clock.

WEDNESDAY, December 2, 1846.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment; and a quorum heing present, the journal of yesterday's proceedings was read and approved.

Mr. Carter presented a petition from Daniel Morgan and Levi Wright, 1st and 2d Lieutenants of Capt. Payne's company, in 1838, praying the passage of a resolution in their favor, asking payment from Congress for services in the Seminole war; which was read, and referred to a Select Committee-Messrs. Carter, Good bread, and McLean, were appointed said committee.

Mr. McMillan presented the following preamble and resolu

tion:

WHEREAS, the establishment of a mail route from the Town of Milton, (the County site of Santa Rosa County, in this State,) via Escambia settlement, in said County by Nathansville in Conecuh County Alabama to the town of Sparta in said County of Conecuh a distance of about seventy-five miles would be the means of furnishing a Post Office at said settlement on Escambia River, which is a large and flourishing neighborhood, also a large neighborhood at Nathansville which places are now entirely destitute of Post Offices. It being thirty miles from the former and twenty-seven from the latter, to the nearest Post Office. And whereas it is believed that the income of Post Offices at said places would be sufficient to defray the expenses of said proposed route.

Be it therefore Resolved, by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Florida, in General Assembly convened, That our Senators and Represetative in Congress, be requested to use their best exertions towards obtaining the passage of a law establishing a mail route from the said Town of Milton via Escambia & Nathansville to Sparta Alabama. And that a copy of this Preamble and resolution be tsansmitted by his Excellency the Governor to our Senators and Representative in Congress.

Which was read the first time, and ordered for to-morrow.

Mr. Bird, from the Committee on the Executive Department, presented the following report:

To the Senate that His Excellency the Governor has placed in their hands the Seal, which he has prepared (in obedience to the Constitution) as the great seal of the State; and the committee here. with submit the same for the inspection of the members of the Senate. The cominittee recommend to the Senate for its adoption the following Joint Resolution:

Resolved, by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Florida, now convened in General Assembly, That the seal prepared under the direction of His Excellency, WILLIAM D. MOSELEY, first Governor elected in said State, be, and the same is hereby approved, and directed to be returned to the Governor, to be by him and his sucessors preserved and used as, and for, the great seal of the State of Florida.

A Message from the House of Representatives containing a Preamble and Resolution asking Congress to grant to the State of Florida the barracks at St. Augustine and adopted by the House was read the first time and ordered for to-morrow.

His Excellency the Governor, transmitted to the Senate the following Message.

EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT, Dec. 2, 1846. Gentlemen of the Senate, and House of Representatives:

The General Assembly is respectfully requested to raise a Joint Select Committee for the purpose of examining the Accounts, Contracts, &c., of the acting Register of Public Lands.

Which was read and Messrs. Fairbanks, Kelly and Lorimer ap. pointed a joint committee on the part of the Senate. Ordered that the same be certified to the House of Representatives.

ORDERS OF THE DAY.

An engrossed Preamble and Resolution asking Congress to make an appropriation to build a Light House at Egmont Key on the coast of Florida.

Was read the third time and adopted.

An engrossed resolution relating to public documents, was read the third time and adopted.

An engrossed Act to make certified copies of records, &c., evidence, was read the third time.

On the question, Shall this Bill pass? the vote was,

Yeas-Messrs. Austin, Bird, Bradley, Broward, Carter, Fair. banks, Good bread, Johnson, Kelly, Lorimer, McLean, McMillan, Priest, Tabor, Walker, White and Mr. President-17.

Nays-0.

So the Bill passed with the title as stated.

A bill to be entitled an act for the relief of persons unjustly sued in the Circuit Courts of this state, was read the second time and referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

The following communication was received from the Comptrol. ler of Public Accounts, viz:

To the Hon. President of the Senate:

Sir-In answer to a resolution of the Senate adopted on yesterday calling on the Comptroller to furnish a statement of the fi nances, I have the honor to state that in accordance with the 8th section of the act organizing the office of Comptroller of Public Accounts, I transmitted to the Executive my annual Report, which report accompanied the Governors Message to the Hon. House of Representatives. Very respectfully,

THURSDAY, December 3, 1846.

The Senate met pursuant to adjournment; and a quorum being present, the journal of yesterday's proceedings was read and approved.

On motion by Mr. Bird, a committee was appointed to invite a clergyman to act as Chaplain for the Senate during the remainder of the session of the General Assembly-Messrs. Bird, Lorimer, and McLean, were appointed a select committee on said motion.

Mr. Johnson gave notice that he would, on some future day, ask leave to introduce a bill, to be entitled an act to extend the jurisdiction of justices of the peace, and for other purposes.

On motion by Mr. Fairbanks, the Secretary was directed to procure of the chief clerk of the House of Representatives, the accompanying documents, transmitted to the Senate and House of Representatives, with the Annual Message of His Excellency the Governor.

Mr. Broward gave notice that he would, at an early day, ask leave to introduce a bill to regulate the State printing of this State, after the adjournment of the present session of the General Assembly.

Mr. McLean gave notice that he would, on some future day, ask leave to introduce a bill, to be entitled an act relative to elections in this State.

Mr. Fairbanks, pursuant to previous notice, introduced the following bill, to wit:

A bill to be entitled an act to provide for the payment of Treasurer's certificates; which was read the first time, and ordered for to-morrow.
