HYMN LV.

The blessings of the gospel.

1 BEHOLD the morning sun
Begins his glorious way;

His beams through all the nations run,
And life and light convey.

2 But where the heav'nly light,
From truth's enliv'ning ray,
Pours all its glory on our sight,
It forms a brighter day.

3 How perfect is thy word,
And all thy judgments just,
Forever sure thy promise, Lord,
Which we securely trust.

4 Thou gracious God, how plain
Are thy directions given!
O may we never read in vain,
But find the path to heav'n.

5 While with our heart and tongue
We spread thy praise abroad,
Accept the worship and the song,
Our Father and our God!

HYMN LVI.

The glory and success of the gospel.
1 THE heavens declare thy glory, Lord,
In every star thy wisdom shines;
But, in the volume of thy word,
We read thy name in fairer lines.

2 Sun, moon, and stars, convey thy praise
Round the whole earth, and never stand:
So, when thy truth began its race,
It touch'd and glanc'd on every land.

3 Nor let thy spreading gospel rest,
Till through the earth thy truth has run,

Till it has all the nations blest, That see the light, or feel the sun. Great God of righteousness arise, Bless the dark world with heavenly light, Thy gospel makes the simple wise, Thy laws are pure, thy judgment right. 5 Thy noblest wonders here we view, In souls renew'd and sins forgiven. Lord, cleanse our sins, our souls renew, And make thy word our guide to heaven.

HYMN LVII.

Praise to the God of our salvation. 1 HAIL the God of our salvation, Triumph in redeeming love;

Let ns with glad exultation

Imitate the blest above.

2 Light of those whose dreary dwelling
Border'd on the shades of death,
He hath by his grace revealing,
Scatter'd all the clouds beneath.
3 Father, thou art all compassion,
Pure unbounded love thou art;
Hail the God of our salvation,
Praise him ev'ry thankful heart.
4 Joyfully on earth, adore him,

Till in heaven we take our place,
There enraptur'd, fall before him,
Lost in wonder, love and praise.

HYMN LVIII.

Bejoicing in the hope of glory

1 THOU God of our salvation,
We joyfully adore thee,

Trusting thy care,

To keep us here,

And bring us safe in glory.

D

2 We lift our hearts and voices
With blest anticipation,
And shout aloud,

And give to God

The praise of our salvation.

3 We lift our voice exulting
In thine almighty favour,
The love divine

Which made us thine
Shall keep us thine forever..

4 By faith we see the glory
To which thou wilt restore us,
We lift our eyes

To that high prize

Which thou hast set before us.

5 Thou God of our salvation We joyfully adore thee; We trust thy care

To keep us here

And bring us safe to glory:

HYMN LIX.

Fruitful showers, emblems of the gospel.

1 MARK the soft-falling snow, And the diffusive rain,

To heaven from whence it fell,

It turns not back again,

But waters earth through every pore,

And calls forth all its secret store.

2 Array'd in living green,

The hills and valleys shine,
And man and beast is fed
By providence divine;

The harvest bows its golden ears,
The copious seed of future years.

3 "So saith the God of grace,
My gospel shall descend,

Almighty to effect

The purpose I intend ;
Millions of souls shall feel its power,
And bear it down to millions more.

"Joy shall begin their march,
And peace protect their ways,
While all the mountains round
Echo melodious praise;

The vocal groves shall sing THE GOD,
And every tree consenting nod."

HYMN LX.

The equity of the divine dispensations. 1 FATHER of men, who can complain Under thy mild and equal reign?

Who does a weight of duty share
More than his aids and powers can bear?

2 With diff'ring climes and diff'ring lands,
With fruitful plains and barren sands,
Thy hand hath form'd this earthly round,
And set each nation in its bound.

3 With like variety thy ray

Here sheds a full, there fainter day,
While all are in their measure show'd
The way to happiness and God.

40 the unbounding grace which brought
To us the words by Jesus taught!
So blest and with such hopes inspir'd,
How much is giv'n, how much requir❜d!

HYMN LXI.

Christ's resurrection, a pledge of ours.

1 BLESS'D be the everlasting God,
The Father of our Lord!

Be his abounding mercy prais'd,
His majesty ador'd!

3 When from the dead he rais'd his Son,
And call'd him to the sky,
He gave our souls a lively hope,
That they should never die.

8 What though thy uncontrolì'd decree,
Command us back to dust?
Yet, as the Lord our Saviour rose,
So all his followers must.

4 There's an inheritance divine
Reserv'd against that day;
"Tis uncorrupted, undefil'd,
And cannot fade away.

5 We by thy pow'r, O God, are kept, Till the salvation come;

1

We walk by faith, as strangers here,
Till thou shalt call us home.

HYMN LXII.

Thanks to God for blessings in Christ.

LOUD be thy name ador'd,

Thy titles spread abroad,

Of Christ our glorious Lord,

The Father and the God;

Through such a Son, thy church's head,
O'er worlds unknown, thine honours spread.

2 Ten thousand gifts of love

From thee through him descend,

And bear our souls above,

To joys that never end;

Sustain'd by God, to heaven they soar,
And through the road his arm adore.

3 Ten thousand songs of praise

Shall for thy mercies rise,
And through eternal days,

Shall echo round the skies;

New shouts we'll give, and loud proclaim
The glories of thy saered name.
