Excerpt from The History of North America

The history of American colonization is to most persons the record of the activities of the Cavalier and the Puritan. Little thought is given to the story of the Dutchmen who strove to create a New Netherland, or to that of the Swedes who warred with the Dutch and the English in the Dela ware country, nor, indeed, is much general interest shown in the accounts of the foundation of New Jersey, Delaware, or Maryland.
