B IT REMEMBERED, That on the fourteenth day of August, A. D. 1830, in the fifty-fifth year of the Independence of the United States of America, WILLIAM AND STEPHEN B. IVES, of the said District, have deposited in this office the title of a book, the right thereof they claim as proprietors, in the words following, to wit:

"A Report of the Evidence and Points of Law, arising in the Trial of John Francis Knapp, for the Murder of Joseph White, Esquire. Before the Supreme Judicial Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts;-Together with the Charge of his Honor Chief Justice Parker, to the Grand Jury, at the opening of the Court."

In conformity to the Act of the Congress of the United States, entitled "An Act for the Encouragement of Learning, by securing the Copies of Maps, Charts and Books, to the Authors and Proprietors of such Copies, during the times therein mentioned:" and also an Act entitled "An Act supplementary to An Act, entitled An Act for the Encouragement of Learning, by securing the Copies of Maps, Charts and Books to the Authors and Proprietors of such Copies during the times therein mentioned; and extending the Benefits thereof to the Arts of Designing, Engraving and Etching Historical and other Prints."

BY THE PUBLISHERS.

We intended to have published the Arguments of Counsel and the Charge of His Honor Judge Putnam to the Jury, but it having become necessary to issue the Trial sooner than we had anticipated, we are compelled to omit them;-and if the next trial should be published, we shall then insert the charge and arguments at large.

We intended also to have published, in an Appendix, a Brief Sketch of the Proceedings of the Committee of Vigilance, and certain Documents connected with the developement of the facts relating to this Murder-but their nature is such, that a publication of them, at this time, is deemed inexpedient.
