Tells of the cloud-compelling winds,
How rain drops do distil;

Its level how the water finds,
Careering down the hill.

The cause of tempests and of storms,

Sirocco and simoon,

Its functions how the brain performs,
Why not, when out of tune.

Within this hall shall science reign,
In queenly, quiet state,

And bring within her wide domain,

An empire vast and great.

Cheers for the man, yes, three times three,

This noble gift who gave;
Thrice honoured shall his memory be,

When he is in his grave.

Yes, worthy is he of all praise,

His due the civic crown;

Come townsmen join in loud hurrahs,

To honor William Brown.

ALFORD, Rev. W.-The Old and New Testament Dispensations compared; showing in what respects they differ; what things are peculiar to the former; and what are common to both. By WALTER ALFORD, M.A. Perpetual Curate of Muchelney, Somerset. Crown 8vo. cloth. 12s.

"Mr. Alford has bestowed a great deal of labour on this volume, and executed his design in a learned and pious manner. He is properly sensible of the intimate connexion of the two Testaments, both as to the inspiring power which pervades them, the substantial oneness of their design, and the continuity of divine operation from the commencement of the one to the close of the other. We recommend the work as a useful addition to an important department of theology."-JOURNAL SACRED LITERATURE.

"This is a book of great value on a subject of far higher importance than at first view might appear. The work, it will be seen, necessarily embraces vast variety of subjects. It is certainly admirably adapted to the wants and requirements of theological students in the present day. We cordially recommend the entire volume. After the work has been carefully read through, as it deserves to be, it is well calculated for standing usefulness as a book of reference."-RECORD.
