W. & S. beg to announce that having purchased a number of copies of the above valuable work on favourable terms, they are enabled to sell them, for a short time, at the reduced prices affixed. It is important to notice that these form a portion of the last copies that can ever be offered for sale for the types having been recently broken up, no more copies can be printed.

It is perhaps unnecessary at the present day to enlarge upon the merits of this work, the best testimonies to which are the great number of copies that have been sold, and its increasing popularity. No cost was spared in its production, for the proprietors paid for Copyright and Engravings alone, exclusive of Printing and Paper, the sum of Forty-two Thousand Pounds. The QUARTERLY REVIEW correctly described it, in a few words, as "A work which is not merely the cheapest of its class, but one which seems to us, in many respects, the best. As to all modern discoveries its superiority is obvious." And another very high authority says, "The complete book may fairly take rank among works of authority systematically conducted, without any improper abridgment of labour or expense; and this although it is the cheapest original work of the class which any time or any country has produced."
