Mr. Alban moved that the Senate adjourn until 2 o'clock, P. M. And the question having been put,

Mr. Wakeley presented the following resolution:

Resolved, That a select committee of three be appointed to prepare and report to the Senate a bill for the incorporation of Railroad Companies; and that until such report, no bill granting a special charter for a Railroad Company shall be considered on a third reading.

Which, on motion of Mr. Wakely was laid upon the table until to-morrow.

Mr. Sharpstein introduced the following resolution, which was adopted:

Resolved, That the Superintendent of Public Property be and he is hereby directed to put up a stove in the Senate chamber forthwith, and also to furnish a sufficient number of steel pens for the use of the several Senators during the session.

Mr. Bovee introduced No. 1. (S) Joint Resolution relative to instruction of Senators on the Iomestead Bill, which was read the first and second times.

Mr. Sharpstein introduced the following resolution, which was adopted, to wit:

Resolved, By the Senate and Assembly of the State of Wiscon

sin, That the State Librarian be and he hereby is authorized to employ Delancy Thayer as assistant Librarian during the present session of the Legislature.

No. 14 (S.) A bill to authorize the city of Milwaukee to construct a canal from the Milwaukee River to River street in the fifth ward of said city, and to levy a special tax to pay for the same. By Mr. Hunter,

No. 15 (S.) A bill for the preservation of game.

No. 16 (S.) A bill to extend the time for the collection of taxes in the city of Milwaukee.

A Message from the Assembly by its Chief Clerk.

Mr. PRESIDENT:

The Assembly have adopted the resolution of the Senate directing the Librarian to furnish the members of the Legislature with copies of the Laws and Journals.

Mr. Sharpstein, from the committee on Incorporations, to whom the same had been referred, reported back to the Senate,

No. 3 (S.) A bill to authorize the Racine, Janesville and Mississippi Railroad Company to build their Railroad in divisions and connect with certain other roads

Without amendment and recommended its passage.

Mr. Miller from the committee on printing, to whom had been referred the resolution and amendments pertaining to the publication of the Governor's Message, submitted the following report:

The Committee on Public Printing to whom was referred the resolution and amendment pertaining to the publication of the Governor's Message, would respectfully report:—

That they recommend that the Chief Clerk be instructed to procure, in wrappers, 1000 copies of the "Wisconsin Banner," containing the Governor's Message, in the German language, for the use of the Senate, at a cost not exceeding 10 cents per copy.

Also, 500 copies of the "Republicano," published at Sheboygan, containing the same document, in the same language, and at the

same cost.

Also, 500 copies of the "Nieuwsbode," containing the same document, in the Holland language, and at the same cost.

Also, 1500 copies of the "Emigranten," and 100 copies of the Norwegian paper published at Racine, containing the same document, in the Norwegian language, and at the same cost.

Also, 300 copies of the same document, in pamphlet form, printed in the Welch language, at 10 cents per copy, and the cost of translation not to exceed 10 dollars.

Which was adopted.

With an amendment, which was concurred in,

Said Bills No. 3 and 4 (S), were severally ordered to be engrossed and read a third time.

And the question upon the engrossment of said Bill No. 2 (S), having been put,

It was decided in the affirmative,

And the ayes and noes having been called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative were:

The Senate then resolved itself into committee of the whole for the consideration of

Mr. Squires in the chair.

And after some time spent therein,

The committee rose and by their Chairman

Reported back to the Senate No. 6 (S), and recommended its reference to the committee on Incorporations,
