To his Excellency ROBERT MCCLELLAND, Governor of the State of Michigan: STR-By act No. 161, laws of 1851, it is made the duty of the Auditor General to report biennially to the Governor, the condition of the finances of the State, and to recommend such improvements in the financial system as he may deem expedient. In obedience to the requirements of the above law, I have the honor to submit the following REPORT: It will be seen by reference to the following statement that the amount on hand at this date in the State Treasury, exceeds the balance on hand at the end of the last fiscal year, $61,882 96-showing a highly prosperous and encouraging condition of the finances of the State. The surplus on hand will soon be used by the Fund Commissioners in the purchase of State Stock, in pursuance of act No. 200, laws of 1848. The interest on our public debt is promptly paid and the credit of the State is untarnished. The rev |
