The following entitled bills, resolutions and memorials were read the first and second times, to wit:

No. 24, (C.) “A bill to provide for and regulating the action of replevin before justices of the peace ;"

No. 40, (C.) "A bill to provide for laying out certain territorial roads therein named ;"

No. 42, (C.) "A bill relating to the county of St. Croix ;" No. 44, (C.) "A bill to provide for the payment to Alexander Mitchell and Harrison Ludington, of interest on certain liquidated territorial bonds;"

No. 68, (C.) "A bill fixing the salary of the Auditor and Treasurer of the Territory;"

No. 50, (C.) “A bill to vacate certain streets in the village of Geneva ;"

No. 61, (C.) “A bill to amend an act entitled 'an act to incorporate the Madison Academy;"

No. 66, (C.) "A bill to incorporate the village of Prairieville;"

No. 67, (C.) “A bill to organize certain towns in Jefferson county;"

No. 51, (C.) "A bill to provide for the payment to John Catlin, of interest on certain liquidated territorial bonds;"

No. 60, (C.) "A bill to authorize school district No. 3, in the school town of Snake Hollow, in the county of Grant, to levy a tax for the purpose of building a school house;"

No. 73, (C.) "A bill to authorize school district No. 16, in Dane county, to levy a tax to build a school house;"

No. 6, (C.) "Memorial to Congress on the subject of harbors on Lake Michigan ;"

No. 8, (C.) "A memorial to the Congress of the United States relating to a road from Prairie du Chein to La Pointe ;" No. 8, (C.) "Resolution relating to the extinguishment of the Indian title to the lands north of the Fox river;"

No. 9, (C.) "Resolution providing for the election of certain territorial officers;" and

No. 10, (C.)" Joint resolution relative to closing the business of the present session of the Legislature."

On motion of Mr. Dennis,

The last mentioned resolution was laid on the table.

No. 7, (H. of R.) 'Resolution for the appointment of a committee to examine the bank of Mineral Point ;'

Was taken up;

And the question having been put on concurring in the amendments of the Council to said resolution,

It was decided in the negative.

Mr. MaGone introduced the following resolution, which was adopted, to wit:

Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of this House be authorized to employ such additional assistance as may be required until the final adjournment of the Legislature."

On motion of Mr. Hoard,

The House adjourned.

WEDNESDAY, January 28, 1846.

Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Spaulding.

The Speaker announced that there was not a quorum in

attendance, when

Mr. Billings moved a call of the House;

Which was ordered, and

Messrs. Barstow, Clapp, Croswell, Dennis, Morrow, Parker, Phelps, Thomas and Wooster reported absent.

The Sergeant-at-Arms was sent to notify the absentees that their attendance was required in the House,

And pending the report of the Sergeant-at-Arms,
The Speaker announced a quorum now in attendance.
On motion of Mr. MaGone,

All further proceedings under the call were dispensed with.
The journal was read and corrected.

Petitions &c. were presented and referred as follows:

By Mr. Mooers. Two petitions of inhabitants of Milwaukee asking the passage of a law in relation to granting licen

ses;

Referred to the select committee on that subject.

By Mr. Hoard. A petition of citizens of Iowa county, asking for the construction of a territorial road;

Laid on the table.

By Mr. Brown, A remonstrance of citizens of Iown county, against any division of said county;

Laid on the table.

By Mr. Cruson. A petition of citizens of Grant county, asking for a division of said county;

Referred to a select committee consisting of the delegation. from Grant and Iowa counties.

By Mr. Dennis. A petition of inhabitants of Dodge county, asking the passage of a law regulating the surveying of land;

Referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

By Mr. Billings. A remonstrance of the members of Iowa county bar, against any change in the time of holding the courts in said county;

Laid on the table.

By Mr. Jones. Two petitions of citizens of the county of Rock, asking for a division of the towns of Beloit and Clinton, in said county;

Laid on the table.

By Mr. Darling. The account of the Sheriff of Fond du Lac county for serving process in territorial suits;

Referred to the committee on Territorial Expenditures.

Also, a remonstrance of inhabitants of Marquette county against setting off any portion of said county to Dodge county;

Laid on the table.

By Mr. Billings. A petition of citizens of Richmond, Iowa county, asking that the name of said town be changed to Linden;

Referred to the committee on Corporations.

Mr. Morrow introduced memorial

No. 6, (H. of R.) "Memorial to Congress for an appropriation for a road from Manitowoc to intersect the road from Green Bay to Fond du Lac," and memorial

No. 7, (H. of R.) "Memorial to Congress for the appropriation of Fort Howard to the Territory of Wisconsin for educational purposes;"

Which were read the first and second times.

Notices for leave to introduce bills were given as follows: Mr. MaGone. A bill to provide for a permanent school fund by investing in territorial indebtedness, the revenue derived from the sale of spirituous liquors.

By Mr. Mooers. A bill for the purposes therein named ; Also, a bill in relation to a certain territorial road.

By Mr. MaGone. A bill to provide ways and means to accomplish certain ends.

By Mr. Cruson. A bill to amend the town charter of the town of Platteville.

Mr. Morrow, from the committee on the Judiciary, to which the subject had been referred with instructions, introduced memorial

No. 8, (H. of R.) "Memorial to Congress for the repeal and disapproval of the act incorporating the Wisconsin Marine and Fire Insurance Company;"

Which was read the first and second times.

Mr. Cruson, from the committee on Engrossed Bills, reported

No. 32, (H. of R.) "A bill to provide for the division of the county of Milwaukee;"

No. 49, (H. of R.) "A bill to divide the county of Iowa and establish the counties of La Fayette and Montgomery ;" and

an

No. 54, (H. of R.) "A bill to amend an act entitled act to provide for the government of the several towns in this Territory, for the revision of county government and for other purposes;"

As correctly engrossed.

Mr. Burnett, from the committee on the Judiciary, to which had been referred the petition of Royal S. Sykes for a divorce, asked leave to return said petition and papers to the House without making any report thereon, and to be discharged from the further consideration of the subject;

The committee was so discharged.

And on his motion, leave was given the petitioner to withdraw the papers relating thereto;

Leave was granted.

Mr. Dennis, from the select committee to whom the subject had been referred, reported back

No. 13, (C.) "A bill to incorporate the village of Madison;"

Without amendments, when

Mr. Burnett moved that said bill be laid on the table;
Which was agreed to.

A message from the Governor by Geo. P. Delaplaine, his Private Secretary:

"Mr. Speaker-I am directed by the Governor to inform you, that he did, on the 27th inst. approve, sign and deposite in the office of the Secretary of the Territory:

'An act to amend the fourth section of an act entitled 'an act to amend an act entitled an act for assessing and collecting county revenue,' approved February 19th, 1841,' and

An act to provide for re-locating the seat of justice of Sauk county and for other purposes.""

Bill No. 32, (H. of R.) was read the third time, when

Mr. Barstow moved a call of the House, which was ordered, and Messrs. Brown, Croswell, Parker and Phelps reported absent.
