On motion of Mr. Dennis, The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole on the general file of bills; And after some time spent therein, rose, and by their chairman reported No. 6, (C.) "Memorial to Congress on the subject of harbors on Lake Michigan ;" No. 70, (C.) "A bill relative to the support of the poor in Racine county;" No. 7, (C.) "Resolution in relation to the admission of Wisconsin into the Union as a State ;" and No. 51, (C.) "A bill to provide for the payment to John Catlin, of interest on certain liquidated territorial bonds;" With amendments. And, No. 12, (C.) "A joint resolution instructing the Superintendent of Territorial Property to perform certain duties," No. 75, (C.) "A bill to pay Moses M. Strong the sum therein mentioned;" Without amendments. And No. 69, (H. of R.) "A bill to organize school district No. 1, in the town of Fond du Lac for special purposes;" With amendments. And No, 84, (C.) "A bill to pay the county of Iowa the sum therein named;" No. 76, (C.) A bill to authorize the collector of the town of Hudson to collect certain taxes ;' No. 50, (C.) Memorial No. 6, (C.) was taken up, and the amendments of the committee of the whole were concurred in ; And the question having been put on ordering said memorial to its third reading, It was decided in the negative. The amendments of the committee of the whole to resolution No. 7, (C.) were then concurred in; when Mr. Hoard moved to amend by striking out all after the word "Union." in the first paragraph, to the word "and," in the last paragraph;" Which was agreed to. Mr. MaGone moved to amend the amendment by striking out "$500," and inserting "$1200;" Which was disagreed to. The question then recurred on the amendment of Mr. Morrow, And having been put, It was decided in the negative. And the ayes and noes having been called for, Mr. Morrow voted in the affirmative. Hereafter there shall be no fees or compensation paid to any other attorney other than the Attorney General, any services to be performed in the management of any suit or suits in behalf of the Territory;" for Which was decided in the affirmative. No. 69, (H. of R.) was then taken up, and the amendments of the committee of the whole thereto were concurred in. Mr. Mooers moved further to amend the bill by adding the following section: "Sec. 16. The trustees of said district may raise by tax, a sum sufficient to pay the debts of Iowa district incurred in the building and furnishing the school house of said district, to be levied and collected as provided for in section nine of this act: Provided, the legal voters of said district shall vote for said tax;" Which was agreed to. Mr. Burnett moved further to amend by adding: Sec. No religious creed or sectarian principles shall ever be made a requisite either for the admission of scholars into the said school or for the employment of teachers therein; and no particular religious creed or sectarian principles shall ever be taught in said school;" Which was agreed to. Said bill was then ordered to be engrossed for its third reading.
