On motion of Mr. Sheldon,

The rule requiring bills, &c. to be printed before being acted upon in committee of the whole, was suspended with reference to this bill,

Mr. Billings moved that said bill be referred to the committee on roads;

The journal was read and corrected.

Petitions were presented and referred as follows, to wit: By Mr. Morrow. Three petitions of inhabitants of Marquette county, praying for a special election for town and county officers;

Which were referred to the committee on Elections.

Also, a petition of inhabitants of the Brown district, asking that the law regulating marriage licenses or certificates may be amended;

Also, a petition of citizens of Sheboygan county, praying for a judicial organization of said county;

Which were referred to the committee on the Judiciary. By Mr. Dennis. A petition of citizens of Dodge county, to have a territorial road laid out from Watertown, via, of Hustis' Rapids, to Fond du Lac ; Also,

A petition of inhabitants of Dodge county, praying for a territorial road in that county;

Which were referred to the committee on Roads.

Also, a petition of inhabitants of Watertown, praying to have a company chartered to build a rail road from Milwaukee to the Mississippi River;

Which was referred to the committee on Internal Improve

ments.

By Mr. Phelps. A petition of inhabitants of the county of Green on the subject of State Government;

Which was referred to the select joint committee on that subject.

Also, a petition of inhabitants of the county of Green, praying for the establishment of a road from Exeter to Fort Winnebago ;

Which was referred to the committee on Roads.

By Mr. Darling. A petition of inhabitants of the town of Ceresco, on the subject of a state government;

Which was referred to the select joint committee on that subject.

Also, a petition of inhabitants of Fond du Lac county, praying for the division of the town of Waupon, and the formation of a new town by the name of Metomon;

Which was referred to the committee on Corporations.

Also, a petition of inhabitants of Fond du Lac county, for the organization of a town by the name of Rosendale; Which was referred to the committee on Corporations. Also, an account of George E. Ruggles, for transporting arms from Taycheedah to Madison ;

Which was referred to the committee on Territorial Expenditures.

Mr. Mooers introduced the following resolution, which was adopted.

Resolved, That the Superintendent of Territorial Property be directed to furnish the committee room adjoining this Hall with a writing desk or table and six chairs."

Notices were given for leave to introduce bills of the following titles, to wit:

By Mr. Brown. A bill relating to constable's fees.

By Mr. Crawford. A joint resolution to discontinue all territorial suits now pending.

Mr. Dennis, from the select committee to whom the subject was referred, reported

Mr. Sheldon, agreeably to previous notice and by leave, introduced

No. 10, (H. of R.) "A bill giving further time to appeal from the decisions of judges of probate ;"

Which was read the first and second times.

Mr. Burnett, agreeably to previous notice and by leave, introduced

No. 11, (H. of R.) "A bill to amend an act entitled 'an act to provide the means to pay the public debt of the Territory,' approved Feb. 24, 1845;"

Which was read the first and second times.

Mr. MaGone, agreeably to previous notice and by leave, introduced

No. 12, (H. of R.) "A bill to incorporate the city of Milwaukee;"

Which was read a first and second times.

The message from the Council was then taken up;

And the following entitled bills were read the first and second times, to wit:

On motion of Mr. Mooers,

The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole

on the general file of bills;

Mr. MaGone in the chair;

And after some time spent therein, the committee rose, and by their chairman reported

No. 5, (C.) "A bill respecting judgments in criminal cases ;"

No. 8, (C.) "A bill concerning the boundary line between the counties of Crawford and Chippewa ;"

No. 9, (C.)" A bill to authorize school district No. 4, in Dane county, to levy an additional tax for building a school house;"

No. 4, (H. of R.) "A bill to amend an act entitled 'an act concerning divorce ;'"

No. 7, (H. of R.) "A bill to repeal the several acts therein named;"

No. 8, (H. of R.) "A bill for the establishment of a territorial road from Burlington, in Racine county, to Delavan, in Walworth county;" and

No. 2, (H. of R.) "A resolution relative to a light-house at Sauk Harbor;"

Without amendment; and

No. 1, (H. of R.) "A memorial to Congress relative to the canal lands;"

No. 2. (H. of R.) "A memorial to Congress relative to the even sections on the canal reserve;"

No. 5, (H. of R.) "A bill to re-organize the board of county commissioners in those counties governed by county government;" and

No. 2, (H. of R.) "A bill to amend the election law concerning justices of the peace;"

With amendments to each;

And also reported progress on the general file of bills, and asked leave to sit again thereon.

Leave was granted.

The amendments of the committee of the whole to bills

Nos. 2 and 5, (H. of R.) and memorials Nos. 1 and 2, (H. of R.) were then concurred in.

And bills Nos. 5, 8 and 9, (C.) were ordered to a third reading.

And bills Nos. 4 and 8, (H. of R.) memorials Nos. 1 and 2, (H. of R.) and resolution No. 2, were ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.

On motion of Mr. Burnett,

The further consideration of bill No. 7, (H. of R.) was postponed until Monday next.

On motion of Mr. Cruson,

Bill No. 5, (H. of R.) was laid upon the table.

On motion of Mr. Brown,

Bill No. 2, (H. of R.) was referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

On motion of Mr. Mooers,

The House adjourned.
