improvement of Grant river in the town of Potosi, in Wiscon sin Territory,' approved June 15, 1844;"

Together with the report of the receiver and engineer appointed under the said act;" which were,

On motion of Mr. Cruson,

Referred to a select commtitee consisting of the members from Grant county.

The following entitled bills were read the third time, passed, and the titles thereof agreed to, to wit:

No. 1, (C.) "A bill to authorize persons having a lien upon lands to pay the taxes on the same;" and

No. 2, (C.) “A bill relating to coroners."

Mr. Phelps, from the committee on Enrolled Bills, reported the following entitled bills, memorials and resolution, as correctly enrolled, to wit:

No. 1, (H. of R.) "A memorial to Congress relative to the canal lands;"

No. 2, (H. of R.) "A memorial to Congress relative to the even sections on the canal reserve;"

No. 2, (H. of R.) "A resolution relative to a light house at Sauk Harbor."

No. 8, (C.) "A bill concerning the boundary line between the counties of Crawford and Chippewa ;" and

No. 9, (C.) "A bill to authorize school district No. 4, in Dane county, to levy an additional tax for building a school house,"

The said memorials, resolution and bills were severally signed by the Speaker.

Mr. Brawley, agreeably to previous notice and by leave, introduced

No. 21, (H. of R.) "A bill to amend an act entitled act to incorporate the Wisconsin River Navigation Compa

ny;'

Which was read the first and second times.

The House then took up

No. 5, (C.) "A bill respecting judgments in criminal cases ;"

Which was read the third time, when

Mr. Fisher moved that said bill be referred to the commit

tee of the whole House;

to.

Which was disagreed to.

And a division having been called for,

There were ayes 7-noes 14.

The said bill was then passed and the title thereof agreed

On motion of Mr. Burnett,

The House resolved itself into a committee of the whole

on the general file of bills;

Mr. Dennis in the chair;

And after some time spent therein, the committee rose, by their chairman reported

and

No. 9, (H. of R.) "A bill to change the form of government in the county of Dodge, and for other purposes;"

With amendments; and

No. 6, (H. of H.) "A bill to amend an act entitled ' concerning replevin ;""

an act

No. 7, (C.) "A bill to provide for the more convenient mode of contesting the election of county and other officers;" and

No. 10, (C.) "A bill for the relief of Benton & Garfield;"

Without amendments.

And also reported progress on the general file of bills, and asked leave to sit again thereon.

Leave was granted.

The amendments to bill No. 9, (H. of R.) were then concurred in; and

Bills Nos. 6 and 9, (H. of R.) were ordered to be engrossed for a third reading.

Mr. Thomas moved that bill No. 7, (C.) be laid on the table.

Mr. Parker moved to amend the motion by ordering the said bill to be printed;

Which was disagreed to.

The motion was then put on ordering said bill to be laid on the table,

And was decided in the affirmative.

Bill No. 10, (C.) was then ordered to a third reading."

Mr. Phelps, from the joint committee on Enrollment, reported that the committee had on to-day presented to the Governor for his approval and signature, the following:

"A memorial to Congress relative to the canal lands.;"

Also,

"A resolution relative to a light-house at Sauk Harbor;" Also,

"An act concerning the boundary line between the counties of Crawford and Chippewa ;" Also,

The House adjourned until half-past two o'clock P. M.

The House resolved itself into committee of the whole on the general file of bills;

No. 1, (H. of R.) "Resolution requiring the Attorney General to institute proceedings against the Wisconsin Marine and Fire Insurance Company;"

Together with the amendments, as referred;

And also reported progress on the general file of bills, and asked leave to sit again thereon;

Leave was granted.

In all of which the concurrence of this House is requested. The Council have concurred in the amendments of this House to

The Speaker stated the question to be on the amendment of Mr. Parker to the amendment of Mr. Dennis, which was to strike out all after the word "instructed," and insert the following:

To report whether in their opinion the Legislature had power to repeal the charter of the Wisconsin Marine and Fire Insurance Company;"

And having been put,

It was decided in the negative.

And the ayes and noes having been called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative were,

Messrs. Barstow, Brawley, Clapp, Crawford, Croswell, Cru-. son, Earll, Graves, Mooers, Parker and Thomas-11.

Those who voted in the negative were,

Messrs, Billings, Brown, Burnett, Dennis, Fisher, Hoard, Jackson, Jones, MaGone, Morrow, Phelps, Pole, Sheldon, Wooster and Darling, (Speaker,)—15.

The question then recurred on the amendment of Mr. Dennis.

Mr. Sheldon called for a division of the question.

The Speaker decided that the question was divisible, and would first be put on the first paragraph of the amendment, which was as follows:

"And that they be instructed to bring in a bill repealing the charter of the Wisconsin Marine and Fire Insurance Company;"

And the question having been put,

It was decided in the affirmative.

And the ayes and noes having been called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative were,

Messrs. Barstow, Billings, Brawley, Clapp, Croswell, Dennis, Fisher, Jackson, Morrow, Phelps, Pole, Sheldon, Woos ter and Darling, (Speaker,)-14.

Those who voted in the negative were,

Messrs. Brown, Burnett, Crawford, Cruson, Earll, Graves, Hoard, Jones, MaGone, Mooers, Parker and Thomas-12.

Mr. Morrow moved that said resolution be laid on the table and made the special order of the day for to-morrow afternoon;

Which was disagreed to.

The question was then put on the second paragraph of the amendment of Mr. Dennis, which was as follows:

"And also to report a memorial asking Congress to disapprove of the act incorporating said company;"

And was decided in the affirmative.

And the ayes and noes having been called for,
