The ayes and noes being called on agreeing to said amend ment, were as follows:

So the amendment was lost.

Mr. Whiton moved to strike out "Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee," and insert in lieu thereof the words "Madison, in the county of Dane;"

And the ayes and noes being called for, were as follows:

Ayes-Messrs. Beardsley, Billings, Bracken, Craig, Cruson, Jenkins, McGregor, Shackelford, Sholes, Sutherland, Whiton and Dewey-12.

Noes-Messrs. Brunson, Childs, Conroe, Hoyt, Longstreet, Newman, Ray, Shew, Stevens, Story, Street and Wells-12. So the amendment was lost.

Mr. Sholes moved to strike out "Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee," and insert "Green Bay in the county of Brown;" Which was decided in the affirmative, as follows:

Ayes-Messrs. Beardsley, Billings, Bracken, Childs, Conroe, Craig, Cruson, Jenkins, McGregor, Shackelford, Sholes, Sutherland, Wells, Whiton, and Dewey, speaker-15.

Noes-Messrs. Brunson, Hoyt, Longstreet, Newman, Ray, Shew, Stevens, Story and Street-9.

The question was then put on agreeing to the report of the committee as amended and the ayes and noes being called, were as follows:

Ayes-Messrs. Billings, Bracken, Brunson, Childs, Conroe, Hoyt, Jenkins, Newman, Shackelford, Shew, Sholes, Stevens, Street, Sutherland, Wells and Whiton-16.

Noes-Messrs. Beardsley, Craig, Cruson, Longstreet, McGre. gor, Ray, Story, and Dewey, speaker-8.

Mr. Sholes then moved to fill the blank in the resolution with Thursday, the 13th inst."

Mr. Childs moved to amend the amendment by striking out Thursday, the thirteenth," and inserting "Saturday, the 15th;" Which was decided in the negative as follows:

Ayes-Messrs. Brunson, Childs, Jenkins, and Shew-4.

Noes-Messrs. Beardsley, Billings, Bracken, Conroe, Craig, Cruson, Hoyt, Longstreet, McGregor, Newman, Ray, Shackelford, Sholes, Stevens, Story, Street, Sutherland, Wells, Whitón, and Dewey, speaker-19.

Mr. Jenkins moved to amend the amendment by striking out Thursday, the thirteenth," and inserting "Friday, the fourteenth ;" and the ayes and noes being called for, were as follows: Ayes-Messrs. Billings, Brunson, Childs, Jenkins, Shew, Street and Whiton--7.

Noes--Messrs. Beardsley, Bracken, Conroe, Craig, Cruson, Hoyt, Longstreet, McGregor, Newman, Ray, Shackelford, Sholes, Stevens, Story, Sutherland, Wells and Dewey-17.

So the amendment was disagreed to.

The question was then taken on filling the blank with Thursday the thirteenth, and was decided in the affirmative, as follows:

Ayes--Messrs. Beardsley, Billings, Bracken, Brunson, Conroe, Craig, Cruson, Hoyt, Longstreet, McGregor, Newman, Ray, Shackelford, Sholes, Stevens, Story, Strect, Sutherland, Wells, Whiton and Dewey.

Noes-Messrs. Childs, Jenkins and Shew.

Mr. Whiton moved that the resolution be indefinitely postponed. And the ayes and noes being called for, were as follows: Ayes-Messrs. Beardsley, Billings, Cruson, Jenkins, Newman, Sutherland, Whiton and Dewey, speaker--8.

Noes--Messrs. Bracken, Brunson, Childs, Conroe, Craig, Hoyt, Longstreet, McGregor, Ray, Shackelford, Shew, Sholes, Stevens, Story, Street and Wells--16,

So the House refused to postpone the resolution indefinitely. The question was then taken on ordering the resolution to a third reading;

And the ayes and noes being called, were as follows:

Ayes--Messrs. Bracken, Brunson, Childs, Conroe, Craig, Hoyt, Longstreet, McGregor, Newman, Ray, Shackelford, Shew, Sholes, Stevens, Story and Wells--17.

Noes-Messrs. Beardsley, Billings, Cruson, Jenkins, Sutherland, Whiton and Dewey, speaker-7.

So the resolution was ordered to a third reading.

The resolution was then read the third time, passed, and the title thereof agreed to.

The ayes and noes being called for on the question of its final passage, were as follows:

Ayes--Messrs. Bracken, Brunson, Childs, Conroe, Hoyt, Longstreet, Newman, Ray, Shackelford, Shew, Sholes, Stevens, Story and Street-14.

Noes-Messrs. Beardsley, Billings, Craig, Cruson, Jenkins, McGregor, Sutherland, Wells, Whiton and Dewey--10.

Ordered, That the Council be requested to concur in the amendment to said resolution.

Mr. Cruson, from the committee on expenses, reported bill No. 13, entitled "A bill to provide for the compensation of the officers of the Legislative Assembly and for other purposes;"

Which was read the first and second time.

The following bills returned from the Council with amendments, were taken up, and the amendments thereto concurred in, viz: No. 5. "A bill to attach the county of Portage to the county of Dane."

No. 11. "A bill to organize the county of Washington and for other purposes."

Ordered, That the Council be acquainted therewith.

The undermentioned resolutions and bill from the Council were read the first and second time, viz :

No. 2. Resolution to amend a resolution concerning the settlement of the accounts of the late acting commissioner."

No. 5. "Resolutions calling on the Secretary of the Treasury of the U. States for information relative to appropriations made by Congress for the use of the Legislative Assembly."

No. 10. "A bill concerning the Supreme court."

The House then resolved itself into committee of the whole on said resolutions and bill, Mr. Conroe in the chair, and after a short time the committee rose, and reported the same to the House without amendment.

The said resolutions and bill were severally ordered to a third reading.

On the question of ordering resolution No. 2 to a third reading, the ayes and noes were called and were as follows:

Ayes-Messrs. Beardsley, Bracken, Brunson, Childs, Conroe, Craig, Cruson, Hoyt, McGregor, Newman, Shew, Stevens, Story, Sutherland, and Dewey, speaker.

No--Mr. Jenkins.

The said resolutions and bill were then, by the special order of the House, read the third time, passed, and titles thereof agreed to, the rule prohibiting them to be so read having been suspended for that purpose.

On motion, a call of the House was made and the Sergeant-atArms was sent after absent members.

The Sergeant-at-Arms having reported the attendance of the members except Mr. Wells, who was engaged before the Supreme Court,

The House went into committee on bill No. 13, entitled "A bill to provide for the compensation of the officers of the Legisla. tive Assembly, and for other purposes," Mr. Ray in the chair.

After some time spent therein, the committee rose and asked leave to sit again ;

The reading of the journal was dispensed with for the present. Mr. Billings, from the committee on corporations reported bill ild No. 14, entitled "A bill to create a fund for the benefit of the creditors of certain monied corporations and for other purposes; Which was read the first and second time.

Mr. Sholes, from the committee on enrolment, reported the fol lowing to be correctly enrolled, which were signed by the Speaker and ordered to be presented to the President of the Council for his signature, viz:
