To You--Who Love the Beach
'N MEMORY of an August day
spent alone with the ocean, when
from the cliffs above Agate
Beach, I watched the grandest of
earth's pageants, the miracle of the
tides, from the time the Sun cast off
his purple robes until He sank into
his couch of flame, followed by the
slender moon and a single star. The
majesty of the scene crowded out all
common thots and my brain seemed
filled with music which, unknown to
myself, had long been waiting there.
With the thot that others may fall
under the same spell, as their delight
in the sea will create a craving for
visions long forgotten, I have brought
together these sketches from the
world's great brushes. May the pic-
tures on these pages, blended with the
pictures spread before you, give a
deeper enjoyment of the earth's great
mystery-the ever restless Sea.
