SENATE JOURNAL.

Monday, January 5, 1846.

This being the day designated in the constitution of the state of Michigan, for the assembling of the legislature, the Senate met in their chamber at the capitol in the city of Detroit; and the members present were called to order by Hon. O. D. Richardson, Lieutenant Governor, and President of the Senate.

On motion of Mr. Howell,

James E. Platt was appointed Secretary of the Senate pro tempore, and H. C. Hodge Sergeant-at-arms pro tem.

The roll was called, and there were present the following Senators, viz:

Senators Allen, Chipman, Denton, Howell, Littlejohn, Smith, Videto and Williams.

The names of the Senators elect were then called, and the following members, their credentials having been presented and approved, severally subscribed the constitutional oath of office, administered by Hon. Charles W. Whipple, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court: First District--Mr. Rix.

Second District-Mr. Bush.

Third District-Mr. Kibbee, Mr. Thurber.

Fourth District-Mr. Maynard.

Fifth District-Mr. Robinson.

Sixth District-Mr. Fenton, Mr. Green.

The name of Mr. Ephraim B. Danforth having been called, as one of the Senators elect;

Mr. Howell announced to the Senate that the seat of Mr. Danforth was claimed, and would be contested by Mr. George A. Coe.

The oath of office was not accordingly administered to Mr. Danforth.
